The winter crabbing season is going great. So far we’ve harvested about 80 dungeness crab, meaning friends, neighbors, and our bellies are happy, and the freezer is well stocked. We’re taking a break now but will be going out again after the holidays.
I scored 2 goals and got at least 1 assist while playing soccer this morning
So happy Miss America won for her chemistry demo as her talent! I think she will be an amazing inspiration to young people about how amazing and fun science can be!
It has been awesome having D19 home. She talked and laughed the whole ride home from the airport. Wish it was longer than an hour ride. She is happy with a B and 3 As, Not bad for the first semester, weeder classes be damn! Grade deflation be damn! I asked if she feels a little smarter being a college student. She said ”oh no I feel a lot dumber, there are so so so much I don’t know, and there are so many brilliant students at Cal, and I can’t wait to know more!”
As soon as we came home she took a long nap. We had a nail appointment at 2 but I couldn’t bring myself to wake her up. She did get up in time to go for a massage at 4, though. We both had 90 mins full body massage and 60 mins facial. It was heaven.
Today we had sushi for lunch then went to get the Xmas tree bc we waited for her to come home, it’s our thing to do together. My heart is full.
We saw “Come From Away” at the Kennedy Center today. What a sweet, beautiful show.
I saw Come From Away in Boston. I agree it’s a funny and touching show.
Had a dear old friend…couple friends actually…call out of the blue today. We had lost touch. What a wonderful surprise. They live about and hour and a half away so we are going to make plans for a meet up.
For the first time since beginning high school, my college kids (Freshman and Junior) are not working. Whereas we rarely saw them during their high school years (school then practice or work then locked away doing homework every night) while they are home for winter break, one is working on some requirements for her scholarship and other is studying for MCATs. So when we gather at night we really gather! We watch football, cook, eat and play games almost nightly. This is such a treat!
My ‘all things Disney’ kid got to march down Main Street as part of his college marching band. Bucket list item - check! Also, we got to see him on tv during the bowl game. Great seeing my happy child in his element.
Last night on Sunday Night Football, when they went through the deal where all the starting players name the college they attended, Seattle’s Tyler Lockett didn’t name his college (Kansas State) but instead gave a shout out to his elementary school.
Caught me off guard, so I had to rewind to confirm I’d heard it correctly.
Last night, threw a baby shower for my niece. It was so fun and alol the unmarried cousins who were present gathered together to play board games after us aunties & uncles left.
Today, D and cousin will be shopping with cousin’s mom for cousin’s wedding gown. D is going to be a bridesmaid & I will be officiating!
D1 had a colonoscopy. A 6 cm polyp was removed. Pathology said all was normal. D2 had a colonoscopy. A 3 cm polyp was removed. Pathology said that there was no cancer. Both girls are in their early 40’s.
We have a 29 year old nephew who has been fighting colon cancer for 8 years. We are very thankful.
@silverlady: Wow. Thank goodness for modern medicine. I guess your Ds will have to have frequent colonoscopies throughout their lives. There are worse – much, much worse – things.
What a wonderful week with DS#1, DIL and GD. Only thing that would have made it better is if DS#2 and wife were with us too.
A few days ago I got a call from a local “rent to own” furniture/appliance store asking for a credit reference on a tenant who rents a house I own. I confirmed their tenancy, gave them a positive reference, and didn’t think much more of it.
The following day the tenant called me for an unrelated reason and I asked what they were getting from the “rent to own” store. Turns out their washer and/or dryer had failed, they couldn’t afford a new set, and this was a viable solution. I explained that these outfits are a step above payday lenders, offered to help them get an affordable washer and dryer, and told them I’d let them pay me back monthly with no interest.
They gladly accepted my offer and cancelled the W/D before it was delivered; DW quickly located a reasonably priced used set; and yesterday I picked it up and delivered it to the tenants.
I suppose “rent to own” stores serve some consumers’ needs, but I view them as exploitative. In this case my tenants are saving about $1400 on this purchase. They’re very happy, and I am too.
Nice story, but here’s the “tell me something good” part: when I delivered the W/D, the wife told me that when she called the store to cancel, the “rent to own” representative was nasty, telling her that they would be calling their landlord to report their unreliability. To which my tenant replied, “Go ahead, but he probably won’t care, since he’s the who told me you guys are a rip-off.”
I was already feeling good, and this made me feel even better.
H is in napping with GS. I am holding / rocking GD while she naps. Our life is good.
Babysitting my D’s 8 week old puppy this afternoon. He is so soft and fluffy with a sweet adventurous disposition. He’s napping now. Just like a human baby I’m afraid to move in case he wakes up.
^^ The good thing about puppies is that you don’t have to walk the floor with them to get them back to sleep.
I should probably wait until I have actual news, but I’m excited over a possibility. DD has been applying for full time work in her field all over the metro area for months and has a very promising interview on Thursday for a job just 2 miles from her home. They called her only half an hour after she submitted her application this morning and did a little phone interview that went really well!
Good luck to your D! I hope my S2 has the same thing happen to him.
