I am currently majoring in communications at a state school in Ohio. The idea of transferring has been in my mind for awhile, but now it seems like a real possibility. I am trying to build up a solid resume/application. Where can I improve and what do you suggest? This isn’t chance thread, so be honest :)

Standardized Tests:

ACT: 21 (score is two years old, studying for a retake as we speak)
SAT: Never taken

Obama Campaign
Children’s Hunger Alliance
Altruistic Designs (I started this a few weeks ago to help network with people in the community. Basically my friend and I make flyers, videos and web-content for non-profit organizations. It’s good practice.)

Internship:

Applying for an internship this summer at a local news station (could search for another in the meantime?)

Teacher Recommendations:

Com Professor/Freelancer - It will be glowing.

Some schools aren’t going to take retakes on the ACT’s when you’re in college if you already have scores from high school, just to let you know. You should check with the individual schools.

sat and act scores at this point in your college career are quite frankly not going to matter much…taking sats or acts 3 years after everybody else has is not going to be considered very impressive, lest you dont do exceptionally well and that would just hurt you

nyu, berkeley, northwestern are reaches, boston u is a match/high match i think

Write a stellar essay? Make sure you get good recs? Honestly, you don’t have much time left, as applications are due in the next couple months. You’ve got a decent shot at those schools, just make sure you have a safety if you don’t want to stay at your current school.

It’s cool. To be honest, I really wasn’t in love with the UCB’s media studies program. I wanted to apply to a west coast school and they seemed like a good fit. Odds are I wont apply but its not really a heart breaker

for northwestern, gpa gpa gpa. they’re definitely really stringent on high gpas. for top 20 schools, transfer rates are usually worse than normal rates. and i’ve learned that if you don’t have a 3.9+ you basically have no shot. (i had a 3.8, and the stats of the acceptees i checked out were all 4.0’s)
