Tell Me Why I Should Apply To Your College

Hi,

I’m a UK student, homeschooled (though I’d be in junior year if I were at high school) and considering which colleges to apply to; I already have some down on my list, but I’m not sure about the rest.

So I’d appreciate it if those of you who are already in college could tell me what’s so great about your college and why I should apply there ^^.

Thanks :).

UCI is bomb for pre-med, comp science, business, drama, and it’s in beautiful irvine

but maybe u don’t know it as well… so maybe you’ll be more into UCLA

but F it

UCI man

What does UCI stand for? (Sorry, I’m from Britain).

^ UC Irvine is a little expensive for OOS-ers…

We have a gorgeous campus.
We have great school spirit.
We have great academics.
What do you like? Football, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey…we’re pretty decent for most of our athletics.
We are right outside of Boston…one of the east coast meccas for college students from all over.
We’re a well-rounded university…academics, division 1 athletics, awesome campus, awesome location…if you’re looking for the traditional four-year experience sans Greek life, apply.

Boston College

Macalester is a small liberal arts college (just under 2000 students) in St. Paul, MN.

Positives: Friendly, liberal, accepting (including of GLBTQ people), supportive, international, politically active, emphasis on community involvement, challenging, but you’re still able to have a social life
Negatives: Can be cold sometimes, not accepting of conservatives, small (compared to a university), sports aren’t very big, probably not as good in math/science as in humanities/social sciences/fine arts

In regards to liberal/conservative, I mean that in the American sense. There a some people who are more conservative or moderate on economics but I don’t know how many. Whether you’re socially liberal or conservative is the most important. I’d suggest being wary if your a moderate on social issues as well, but in more of a suggesting you look more into it sort of way.

i posted this on my school’s forum (UNC-Chapel Hill) a couple days ago–

Why I love being a Tar Heel:

-March Madness (!!)
-the sky is the same color as my t-shirt on game day (God must love the Tarheels)
-receiving “DANNY GREEN/TYLER HANSBROUGH/TY LAWSON SIGHTING” text messages on a semi-daily basis
-being surrounded by people who are probably as type A as I am, but still love to relax and go out when their work is done
-the public outcry in the Union when someone tries to switch the news from CNN to FOX
-running into someone I know wherever I walk on campus (especially the Pit!)
-listening to pit preachers
-feeling compelled to fiercely defend my school at the slightest criticism because I’m so proud to attend my University
-still being best friends with people I met at orientation and my suitemates from Ehringhaus last year
-Franklin Street
-being amazed at the accomplishments and passions of my peers
-being able to easily get involved with absolutely anything I’m interested in (for me, that’s women’s issues)
-riding the P2P on a friday night
-rushing Franklin after a big victory (whether it’s men’s basketball or Obama’s win!)
-obsessively completing the Daily Tar Heel crossword (yes, in class!)
-finally feeling challenged academically
-dancing to the drumline’s familiar cadence on the march down to Kenan Stadium for a football game
-socializing in the UL (Undergraduate Library); actually studying in Davis
-stumbling home from a great party with great friends (and then getting made-to-order omelettes for breakfast at Ram’s Head the next morning)
-going to YoPo
-Halloween on Franklin!!!
-hanging out at Weaver Street Market on a Sunday morning listening to bluegrass music
-going to shows at Cat’s Cradle & independent films at the Varsity (and free movies every weekend in the Union!)
-Dance Marathon
-knowing that everyone else I know loves Carolina as much as I do

For what it’s worth, I’ve known at least three exchange students from the UK and they’ve all loved it here (and they all said they preferred it to their home universities).

OP^ UCI is University of California-Irvine, It’s in the same league as UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and Cal

Yeah, it is a bit tad expensive for Internationals, but I know this Spanish guy who’s at UCI :P

40,000+ Dollars which includes housing, fees, tuition, etc.

um… go for an Ivy like all internationals

Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Penn, Cornell, Brown, Princeton, Dartmouth,

I’m going to try for an Ivy for Grad School

I’m definitely going for all the Ivies save Brown (still a bit unsure about that one). Thanks for all the suggestions, people, keep 'em coming. :)

@haikumarukuchan: I’m sorry, I’m sure your school is beautiful, but FA is pretty much a must for me; I’m not the richest girl who ever applied to college, to put it mildly, and I don’t want to be saddled with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt when I graduate. Sorry :/.

Second UNC-Chapel Hill. We’re a great school, beautiful campus, nice weather, and we are good at pretty much every sport (and straight dominant at some). UNC has the perfect balance between academics, athletics, and social life.

We are right in the middle of New York City.
We are an Ivy League.
We have a beautiful Campus.
Barack Obama went here.

Columbia University.

Don’t even consider UCI unless you’re asian (no racist)

I am actually Asian, but why should only Asians consider UCI?

And I’m already applying to Columbia :); I’ll check out UNC (short for University of North California, I presume?)

University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. :)

^ Hey OP, you’re from England right?

HOWS MUSE??? I WISH I COULD LIVE THERE TO SEE MUSE OFTEN AND STUFF!!! I LOVE MUSEE MUSE MUSE MUSE MUSE!!! AHHH!

While my school is certainly no UNC basketball quality-wise, what I love about it is that even though it’s a D-I school, the players are very personable, and say hi and talk to everyone. I’m under the impression that Psycho T and co. are not exactly warm and friendly to the average student.

Because it’s the best school in the United States
Get a Duel-Education
Division 1 fencing team that competes against Ivies
Lost a Lot of Money with Madoff

You really need to Be Jewish

Yeshiva U

nahh, i’ve met some athletes and most of them are pretty friendly (if not super friendly then at least polite). deon thompson gave me his bus seat once. haha

Deon’s cool, but what I’m saying is that I highly doubt the players know you personally and say hi to you without you saying hi first.

That may be true, but I highly doubt the players you know personally compete for a national championship on a regular basis.
