Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

Women used to dominate society until agriculture experienced some revolutions(tools, organization,etc.). This was called the Neolithic age. People settled down into communities centered around the farmland. Eventually, the duty of tending the crops fell to the women, and the men took to the hunt for meat and such. Long story short, it’s been like that ever since: Men go out to provide bacon and women tend to stay home keeping house.

Needless to say, this is the proper system of doing things, what with women having brains the sizes of peanuts and all. (:

Isn’t there evidence to suggest that in many earlier civilizations, societies were actually more matriachal, but that as soon as men learned to play their three cards (God, size, and pregnancy handicaps), women were reduced to inferior status? This happened more obviously with the agricultural revolution when different gender roles developed.

Of course, WE know that women are smarter…

Yes, well, Donny, do remember who is in charge of making sure that rat poison doesn’t accidentally and unobservedly get mixed into your food in tragically fatal amounts. :)

Gosh darnit, Hudson beat me!
I seem to recall lions spending all day under the shade doing…well nothing, while the lioness does the hunting. If you ask me, the female was made to bring home the bacon (what with men being glued to the television half the time anyways…)

I think he’s a mind reader. He’s done that to me several times now.

Yeah, I think that happens a lot. Men being mostly vain and for show, that is, while we poor women have to go and make sure the house doesn’t fall down due to their neglect.

Sarcasm, Wink? Or are you refrencing one of those feminist studies that pop up every couple of years detailing how women are mentally superior to men due to genetics or some such?

I THOUGHT I TAST…ghuy…thu…hugh…(dies while clutching throat)

Well, behind every great man is an even greater woman…

I’d say it’s mostly common sense. We outnumber you on the forum three to one, usually. And remember how women got subjugated during the Middle Ages and we didn’t actually learn anything for a thousand years? There’s also that. Now that women have been allowed back into real high learning, think of all the technological leaps we’ve made.

I wonder what men will do if/when cloning is ever perfected and women don’t need them anymore? I think the balance would shift a little, call it the Genetic Revolution.

Wow. Hudson is dead. This is a special moment for us all.
Women live longer anyway.

Well, artificial insemination in all, we really only need a small reservoir of men. Gorgeous, confident and rich men with good genes, of course. The rest can go. :)

Let us mourn his passing by watching a Sex and the City clip on Youtube.

I suppose Hudson is out then, Earil?

Mm, depends on how much like Don Juan he actually looks. He’s a little iffy on the brains, but he’s eloquent plenty and I’d say pretty confident for making such chauvinist statements in the presence of two such intelligent women.

The middle Ages were a stagnation of intellectual ideas not because of the subjugation of women but because of a little thing called the church and its pope that isn’t to keen on teaching.
By the by, the Middle Ages were a boom for the treatment of women, not necessarily their rights, because of the Age of Chivalry. Knights were holding doors open for gals left and right.

I’m alive because i recognized Jesus Christ as my lord and savior the second before I died. we ended up chatting a bit, nice guy. (:

Yes, I’m sure all the pretty, buxom peasant women were glad to have the door opened for them when the Lord of the land they lived on took his right to deflower her by force if necessary.

Chivalry was not a great thing for women. Sure, they weren’t beaten as much, but treatment of all women as “damsels in distress” or as dainty creatures with fragile minds did not advance respect for women in any way. Also, this only applied to upperclass women. Lowerclass life hardly changed: drunken, abusive husbands for the most part (OK, I’ll admit a bit of a generalization there…)

EDIT: Earil brings up a good point about the rape.

Being in the presence of a Knight in shining armor was good enough for them I guess. Wouldn’t it be for you? I know if a courageous, chivalrous gal had her way with me, I’d be all smiles.

I’m sure you would, Hudson, especially now that you’ve found Jesus.

Donny, rape jokes=always a bad idea, fyi.

makes joke in kind about how his girl would go out and slay Tartars while he’d stay home and bake and watch girly TV. 'Nuff said.

Good point. Well, it doesn’t really matter when the mid-ages where because women haven’t REALLY contributed to the academic field until the past 300 years or so, and that’s being generous.
