Oh my God, we had to read all of “The House on Mango Street” and I hated it. But I kind of hate poetry, too, so vignettes aren’t much better.

I like English, but hate poetry. Prose and drama’s where it’s at.

Favorite English Books Evar:

-The Old Man and the Sea
-To Kill a Mockingbird
-The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
-Pride and Prejudice
-Interpreter of Maladies
-Love Medicine

Disneyguy started a fire! Everybody, what are your top five books? No need to impress, We all have a special place in our hearts for Harry Potter, i bet.
And yes, cira. Everyone know men are better than women. Wait, we’ve already had this debate!

^^ we can debate again. i’ll back you up this time don with my infinite manhood.

cira & mls vs. don & elmo

lol. that title looks absolutely ridiculous cuz of the last word. “elmo” just ruins the feeling of ominous conflict. it makes it sound like a karoke faceoff rather than a debate

and yet you still dont get it donny, your not. go realize that ay donny. and sure repeat i wasnt here for the original. lol.
and old man and the sea was so blah.

but yeah hmm:
libete
harry potter books (i bothered to read all 7 that is love)
like water for chocolate
boys life ( it was so cute and full of imagination)
and finally mountains beyond mountains (i wish i could have an effect on the world like that)

This is hard for me… I love so many books, I can’t pick just five.

Modern American Poetry- published in 1919, it’s old and wonderful. I can pick it up anywhere and start reading. It feels like an old friend.

His Dark Materials trilogy. Mostly for the love story, I won’t lie. It’s beautiful.

Keys to the Kingdom series. They’re very creative.

Pretty much any of Madeleine L’Engle’s books

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy.

Oh, Donny. It was a good debate. It’s simply too bad that you won’t see reason about it.

Here are mine in no order:
Redwall series (anybody else read these when they were younger?)
The Death of Ivan Illyich
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
Tunnel in the sky
Walden and other Thoreau writings

Understandable, cira. I mean, they were about talking mice after all.
Mls, i was just joking. I can’t even remember what the debate was about. I vaguely remember that it was about womens’ wages…

Collectively, it was just a sexism debate. We argued that women have been historically discriminated against, you sat at your computer desk and whimpered, not being able to come up with a single valid point against ours…

Okay, I missed the day nicknames were given out. Will someone make a little guide for the ignorant TASP-posters like myself?

And just to be clear: Those were my favorite ENGLISH books. Here are my favorite book books:

1-The Alchemist
2-The Kite Runner (Laugh if you wish, I thought it was powerful)
3-The Perks of Being a Wallflower
4-Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/His Dark Materials (I know it’s not fair to dump them together, but hey, I want to!)
5-The Thief Lord

Hmmm, yeah I think that’s what happened…wait NOW I remember.
If women want to be treated on equal terms, then chivalry must die, which I’m pretty sure women don’t want to happen.

You’re right. Men were granted far more educational opportunities than women in the non-contemporary times of the Nobel Prize. (Don’t worry, I realize you were joking!)

My critnal was a feminist critique of “The Lord of the Rings” and I loved every minute of writing it!

o but baby it is dead.chivalry had a stroke sometime after the victorian revolution or whatever during the gilded age. it never really made a comeback.

Disneyguy, we have got to get you a nickname!

Cira, short for Velociraptor = Earilmadith
mls, short for My Little Socialist = panicpower
Donny, short for Don Juan = St. Hudson
elmo, short for last man on earth(lmoe), but we changed letters around = D-yu

I forgot Wink! No problem, she is off taking over asia and all.

fridge, short for refrigerator(no duh) because she is so cold and pragmatic but we still love her = wink
