Last book…“Maus II” by Art Spiegelman

Panic, I just wrote a 12-page paper on OFOTCN for APE a few months ago…on one chapter of the book. That was an interesting experience.

A comic book reader, wink?

I know the feeling, mls. I should be the one that is ashamed. The book was only about 150 pages. I only read stuff I can get over quickly, which pretty much defeats the purpose of reading.

was it double spaced? what chapter since it really is broken into like parts and doesnt mark the chapters. can i read it if you have it? i adore the book. finally a author who was on drugs when he wrote his crazy book.

i liked maus (wait, there was a II?)

I used to read comics occassionally…but this one was actually for school (although I’d already read it a few years ago). The only other ones I’ve read (Persepolis, V for Vendetta, some Batman comics) were years ago, i.e. middle school

It was 1.5x spaced, I think (totally violation of MLA, but I didn’t want to kill more trees than I had to). It was chapter 17, the one where Chief looks out the window and sees the dog and the car. We didn’t get to pick the chapter; we were assigned alphabetically. I’ll email the essay to you, if you want.

TPC - yeah, there was a “Maus II” that came out a few years later, I think, following up Vladek’s experiences in Auschwitz. It’s more emotional than “Maus,” I would say, and also shows us a lot of stuff going on in Art’s brain–his personal struggles in writing this graphic novel about his father.

o the moment when he is getting out of his false sense of self and all that. and i wonder if the car hits the dog. i mean it is implied but …

Yeah, I actually explored that topic a bit in my paper and hinted at the foreshadowing of Chief’s own ambiguous ending…we don’t really if the dog (Chief) was eventually crushed by the car (the Combine) or if he really escaped that fate.

it gives the chance, the hope that maybe just maybe the car missed.

If you liked V, you’ll most definitely appreciate Watchmen, same writer. Then again, the movie is coming out in about a year, so you can just wait. (:

Twelve pages? I don’t think I have that much dedication to anything to write so much about it. I really hope you got an A. And if you’re sending emails, would you mind if I read it as well?

wink is gonna insert her propaganda, and have you and me take over south america and africa respectively.

I don’t know how receptive the South Americans will be of this “gringo.”

I have a computized (is that a word?) version of Watchmen…I just haven’t gotten around to reading it.

I just emailed my paper to Panic. Now I have to send it to you too Hudson? Gosh darnit. I’ll be right back. :)

i say you try and pass off your don juan looks and the fact that you live in florida. if nothing else fridge will have to do it herself with her asian army.

your teacher’s name was actually “mr. read” awesome.

I’m afraid the two of you are too corrupted to be trusted with large land masses. You’ll have to prove yourselves first. Perhaps we should start with smaller ambitions…say Morocco and Peru?

Panic - yeah, it’s kind of funny how that works.

EDIT: For anyone who cares to know, I got a rare A+ on that paper.

For some reason, the imagery of the army of the People’s Republic of China storming the mountains of Chile makes me laugh.

I guess I’m a materialistic person, but I’m really not. What I mean is that I need something physical to hold unto when I’m processing it. It’s what makes molecular science so hard for me to get, everything is so tiny!

processing what?
your would hate a midget’s house then?

and donny, think the Indiana jones scene where he is trying to get away with the idol and the natives all come over a hill and are chasing him. is it something like that but with better weapons, more clothes, and possibly a lighter complexion?

What I mean is that I need to physical see something in front of my eyes to begin to understand it. If I’m looking at a picture of a Sterling engine, I’d rather have the engine right in front of me in order for me to analyze it more easily.

Wow, fridge that essay is insane, but it’s midnight for me, and i’m off to bed. Sleep tight, everybody.

ooo i see. night. i should go too. take advantage of the three day weekend, even if it is for a holiday that partially celebrates an idiot president.

and fridge i havent read the essay yet, but it looks major. havent had to write a paper with citation or whatever in the text like that since 10th grade…that cant be good huh?
