Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

i think natural things like war and disease will take out alotta people. and i dont like where i assume America will take eugenics.
and frankly id rather have a long commute than people ordering babies.

i mean we have only paused cancer and hiv/aids. and that’s only if you have the money. third worlders are still fighting things like TB and the like. and with MDR disease cropping up i think we have a fair chance.

“the Nova Center for Applied Research and Development”
Sounds intimidating and fancy. Is it a magnet school type deal?

But despite disease, population continues to grow at uncontrollable rates. Consider Africa, which has been economically and politically f-ed up thanks to colonization/imperialist expansion, one of a few continents with massive health problems…yet the population is multiplying like crazy! The world will never be able to sustain us all. Maybe humans, for all their attempts to fight nature, have finally reached their carrying capacity…

yes it is, wiki that ho, they have some info. but not too fancy.
then pray for a meteor or global warming cuz i dunno.

and really now. africa ::wags finger:: get off each other my friends.

Since I brought up the colonization of Africa, I have another (side) question. As we all know, Europe and America’s industrialization led to the conquering of, well, everything…and I’m sure that you heard about the Australian govt’s formal apology to the Aborigines who were abused when Australia was colonized. America has made apologies to the Native Americans for slaughtering them, enslaving them, and stealing their land… Africa and the Middle East have been permanently impacted by imperialism, resulting in ethnic conflict, lack of infrastructure, economic dependency on raw materials. Do you feel that more reparations need to be made to the native peoples of these lands, decades or centuries later, and, if so, what kind? A lot of Americans and Europeans would argue that modern-day citizens shouldn’t be held responsibile for the crimes of their ancestors. How do you feel about this argument? Is worth even trying to fix things, or will more foreign interference even make things worse?

No. They would have done the same if they could; they’re only human. Humans rape and plunder and lie; that is how we can to dominate the planet. We were smart and we were ruthless, and regret doesn’t save us from what we are.

No. Let the dead be dead. Moving on: I think we should all call on March 1st this year, since March 2nd is a Sunday.

Eventually, unless of course we colonize another planet, we’re going to face a Malthusian crisis if we continue trying to save every life. Before when I said we needed a massive natural sliming of the race is because no one would voluntarily sacrifice themselves for the sake of the race, that’s why has to be something outta our hands that takes care of the pop.

in all honesty i dont think reparations would work on that scale. the concept seems flawed. like you ruined these people crippled their lives and traditions. money doesnt make it better really. sure the native americans got casinos, but dude that doesnt cut it. and also my God the people who did these things are long gone, ofttimes so are their viewpoints. im not saying forgive and forget but how do you determine how much someone gets? how do you quantify suffering?
and i think personally, that those apologies were made because you have to live with these people in your land. o sure britain f-ed up africa but they are in europe they can watch and be sad but not suffer. and throwing money or apologies only satisfy superficial requests.

Money is not the answer for africa. As is evidenced by pretty much every government in africa, all the money ends up with those in power. We would only be contributing to social stratification. What needs to be done is a reconquering of the continent. Once everything is under control, we can make boundaries based on ethnic and tribal territories instead of on the arbitrary boundaries of the Imperialists of centuries past. From this point the countries should begin to properly represent themselves.

I am absolutely aware of the numerous flaws with this, but let me dream, girls. (:

Does anyone know when we find out about interviews for TASP?

illuminar -
Based on last year’s thread, people began calling on about March 2 and getting their notifications. Otherwise, you can wait for your notification to come in the mail a week or so later, I think.

Hudson, that would be ideal (the reassigning of boundaries, I mean). But I think that most nations have had enough of foreign involvement/interference in their affairs. So, dream on…:)

Dude, is this by 500th post? Sweet.

i swear if someone else asks that ima throw a shoe. but yeah.

and in extreme theory that is a good idea hudson. you realized the obvious flaws and put that in, i’ll give you credit for that.

Hey everyone! How are your days going?

If we interfere in Africa, it should be to provide jobs doing stuff like building roads and putting in telephones and electricity- infrastructure. Nothing can advance unless that’s well in place first.

pant pant faltering steps THWUMP!

twitch twitch blink struggles slowly to feet

wow, its hard reading superfast thru 10 pages of posts… sho… whatup everyone. and ditto to cira, africa needs jobs and stability, not relief funds that dictators just take and store away in swiss bank accounts

elmo, im loving the animation. and im inundated in physics. and i have pop tarts.

pop tarts @ 7:50 (10:50 for you) @ night? lol.

Ugh, pop tarts… They’re so dry and not that tasty at all…

My new favorite snack: Pita quarters, lightly toasted and buttered. For some reason it is miraculously good.

Elmo, what state do you live in, again?

cira, howya doin’? heartbreak partially healed yet?

oohh… since we’re on the topic of snacks, i’ve just bought some cheese poppers with peppers from costco and they’re AMAZING…

no i really like the milkshake ones, they are gooey and good. and elmo im a sugar addict. me and cookie monster were in rehab together.
but i reallly love pita bread, and like soft cuban bread. separately. i can eat either one by itself and it is just wonderful.

Yeah, it’s fine today. Still annoyed at the dearth of boys suitable for dating purposes.

Ooh, I love those… They have like three hundred calories each though, so they are for very rare occasions only.

I feel like baking a pie. I watched Waitress earlier with a friend, and that movie always puts me in the mood to bake. My dad’s already in bed though, and he’ll wake up if I go to putter about in the kitchen.

I looooove bread and carbohydrates in general. I love a real crusty Italian loaf with sesame seeds… Also have an incurable sweet tooth. I don’t know how I manage to keep my figure.

i know i ration them to like once a week. i just cut away other junk.

aww i love baking. i remember when i made an apple pie i was giddy.
and the above statement does not mean that women belong in the kitchen, or any of that sphere of domesticity crap.
::cough:: elmo ::cough::
