I mean that some people (like me) are probably obsessing to an unhealthy extent, ergo, the behavior is maladaptive, ergo, the behavior is “abnormal” (psychologically) or “insane” (for people who don’t bother with politically correct jargonese).

Okay, I’m not obsessing that much anymore. I’ve basically resigned myself to a rejection letter…

My guidance counselor doesn’t know what the hell TASP is. And she thinks my schedule for next year is too hard…and I’m taking half the AP classes I have this year (including Spanish Lang, which should not even qualify as an AP).

Hooray for incompetent counselors! I hope none of you have to suffer it.

Mine doesn’t either. She gushed about it anyway, and how beautiful Cornell is and how she went to running camp there for three year, and how she felt that she picked the worst, hilliest running camp ever, but it was still so beautiful… (: I like her though. She seems like she really loves her job except for all the dumb kids.

Earil, your essays were amazing. If you were rejected, it would be a great blow upon my faith in humanity. On a random note, my parents visited Cornell a long time ago and they still gush about how beautiful is. On the nonexistent chance that I get accepted into a Cornell program, they will plan a tour of the area and the Five Finger lakes, etc…

Not the that state of Michigan isn’t beautiful as well…the UP is gorgeous.

blushes I’m pretty sure they were just weird and slightly insane. If insanity exists, that is. Relatively insane? It’s a safer term, at least.

Ouch, Classik. That must be awful. I thought it was terrible getting a new one for my senior year.

I’ve had the same counselor for three years, and she (shockingly) actually knows me by name now. Mostly because, out of the 400+ students she has, I am one of the few smart ones (not to sound cocky or anything ;)).

Earil, a little insane is good. My essays were /too/ sane. I played it safe…no personality.

Mm, I doubt that Wink. rereads Actually, I really like your seminar rankings one. Most of them were probably like mine, just a list. Throwing that haiku in there is awesome, and you really connect yourself to the topics. Your conflict about your religion is neat too. I’d never even heard of Jainism before. You explain things very well and your voice really comes through in your writing, for all the essays.

Aw shucks, Earil. But seriously, yours were amazing. You really thought outside the box. Trusted computing?! A children’s book?! I would have never thought of anything like that. They were really /interesting/ reads, as in, I actually /enjoyed/ reading them (which is rare when I read essays). And your style/flow is great.

Panic’s were good too. I shan’t leave her out–and she has TASS going for her.
What have I got? Well, very little from the looks of things. I’m OK about though. I’m not going to expect anything.

:) <– smilies = self-efficacy boosters
For all my frigidness, whenever we trade papers in class to grade, I always include a smilie ;)

Thank you, Fridge. It took me forever to come up with stuff I wanted to write about. The conflict one was hours of staring at a blank page of paper, and then minutes of fierce, uninhibited scribbling until my hand cramped. I just hope the TASP admissions readers feel the same way you do. I’m sure they’ll like yours.

Mm, lucky Miss Experience With the Telluride Association.

That’s okay Panic. I basically called Americans in general stupid in one of mine.

Which reminds me, today in (one of the) high school cafeterias, there was this massive 8-person brawl. Of course, as soon as it started, about 500 kids ran over or stood on the lunch tables to see better. I might have let slip a comment about them all being “dumb animals” (yes, it was wrong of me, I know)–and some of them took offense??? :)

Oh dear, Fridge. Don’t go getting yourself jumped, now.

In all my years of high school, I’ve never seen a fight yet. They happen fairly often at my school, just never when I’m around. It’s probably a good thing- One misplaced punch and I’d probably be out for the count.

What was it about, Classik?
And very few CCers are capable of crap essays…
I’m sure it was good, if not great.

I’m see that I’m overusing the “wink” smilie…but it is my name after all…;)

EDIT: The eagerness to see blood must have something to do with id/thanatos…
Oh, and I’m used to death threats. I get them more frequently than one would imagine. Actually, I got a threat (no death involved, though) after 9/11–I guess some ignorant 4th grader assumed that all peoples of bronzed skin tone are terrorists.

i have not seen a real fight in a while. i remember it because they were fighting in the mud, real mature…for a gorilla.
but i dont understand fighting, it is almost always multiple people on one. what are you going to prove by winning by unfair odds?

I basically wrote it on this one time a spider landed on my arm during a math test, in a stream-of-consciousness style. Yay phobia? Yeah, the S-o-C is what’s worrying me… hard to tell if I’m being clever or weirdish-sounding.
