Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

hey guys - i guess i’m one of those “lurkers” coming out of the wood work…
congrats to those who got an interview!!
and to the other (approx) 84% who wont - i think we would agree that the application itself was an academic and personal experience…
but nevertheless - i am freaking outttttttt!!!

Howdy! If you have any questions, see post 6121 on page 408, and welcome to not-lurking!

hello all.

Hey Panic? How was your day?

Hey, everybody.

For some reason, the FAQ is now located on page 407 and is post #6102.
Weird…

Simultaneous sign ons! Awesome!

I had a wonderful afternoon. I made cappuccino cupcakes that smell just slightly divine. (:

What’s eating our posts? ):

The baker in you reveals itself once again, cira.

My afternoon consisted of disappointment as my club’s t-shirts were supposed to come today, and I looked forward to it all day, but turns out that the t-shirt maker lost the t-shirt design, and now we have to wait for another two weeks at least. ):
This feels extremely trivial in retrospect.

Cupcakes are wonderful. I mean seriously, probably the only way to improve upon cake is to miniaturize it. They call cupcakes fairy cakes in England, which is super cute.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Were they awesome t-shirts? It would be disappointing to have to wait forever for the coolest t-shirt in the world, or something.

I don’t know what the t-shirt looks like. Somebody drew it up and gave it to the printer before the rest of us could check it out.

Alamode, I love the word, “Kiddo” (Kill Bill is one of the greatest movies ever).
Does anyone oppose my nomination?

Ah, so it’s the elements of mystery and suspense.

Kill Bill is so fun! Chiaki Kuriyama is awesome. I haven’t seen them in forever, I was actually just thinking a week ago that I should rent them.

Kiddo sounds good.

I’m going to go make a sandwich, be back

i’m back with some chips. and we are a post short because one of my posts was deleted for being against the rules. and those cupcakes sound awesome.my asian club’s shirts are yet to come in too. the printer dropped our order very tragic.

Note to self: Floridian t-shirt printers are notoriously unreliable.

Asian Club?

yes asian club. my friend is the president, we raise money and try and send it to asia.

and i know right, they should be boycotted.

Oh, neat. Not what I expected.

You should go to school wearing blank t-shirts in protest of their breach of contract.

Woo! We’re supposed to get dumped with another 6 inches tonight.
I hope this means what I think it means…SNOW DAY!!! I shan’t hope, however. After our last snow day which was declared early in anticipation; the result was only 3 or so inches), I doubt we’ll be so lucky…And I live on the side of the county that usually gets the shorter end of snowfall. Althought it is pretty blizzard-y right now…

Oh, poor Sec. Interview rejection notices already? This worries me a bit
runs off in a panic to check email for such death notices

Asian club? I think we have one too. Well, we have at least three separate Asian clubs: East Asian, South Asian, and Middle Eastern…all of them are kind of cult/clique things though, and I refuse to be a part of any of them. They are all cultural clubs, not humanitarian organizations…

Lamest T-shirt idea: buy a plain white shirt, take a piece of paper towel, write on it “too cheap to buy a real shirt,” and tape it to the shirt. Why is it that whenever I go to type “shirt” I always want to leave out the “r” (think about it…)?

We’re supposed to get a good deal of snow tonight… I don’t know when it’s coming, though, and that’s the important part.

I know! I’ve been panicking all day. I rush to the inbox, and it’s just some stupid junk mail.

I don’t think we have any cultural or humanitarian clubs at my school, unless you want to argue that recycling club is humanitarian.

With Asian club, Caribbean Club, and Hispanic Club, would it be wrong for a school to have a European Club(read:white club)?

This was a controversy a while back, a girl attempted to start, in essence, a white club, anyone was free to join like the other ethnic clubs, but the school forbid her from going further with her plans due to cries of racism.
What do you think?

Ugh, that’s crap. Just because European culture is more widely known about than other cultures (I’m assuming the other clubs are supposedly promoting understanding about their cultures.) doesn’t mean it’s not interesting and shouldn’t be promoted. I mean, Europe has pretty much accounted for all but maybe the last 50 years of mainstream thought and is the basis for US culture today… It’s kind of a big deal, especially considering the dozens of different countries it contains and the fact that they each have their own national identity, dialects, traditions, etc.

What is a “white” club? What would they do?
We have an Italian club, a Scotch-Irish club, a French club, a German club, a Macedonian club, etc., all targeted at descendents of these people and practioners of these cultures.
But we don’t have a specific “white” club.
Most whites immigrated so long ago and are so far removed from their origins that they have very few cultural ties left to Europe.

Off to dinner.
