Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

lol totally worth it classik. and ahh ohio too.

porna did receive news. and any letter now would be acceptance.

Although, if Earil hasn’t received news yet, I’m pretty sure you’re safe.
Her essays were fabulous; I can’t imagine her not getting an interview.

i wonder if they organize applicants by their first choice to see what they are working with.

Wink, stop it! You’re only getting my hopes up to be dashed upon the piercing rocks of fate along with my still beating heart…

The letter was good…a lot smaller than I anticipated. My mom texted me during school (!) to let me know. When I actually saw it after school, I asked her if she thought I was rejected since the letter was so thin. She smiled sheepishly and then said, “But you got accepted!” And we laughed about that. Don’t fret too much about not getting in. Before today, I just looked at the numbers and said, “It’s not likely that I’ll get in.” Spend time worrying about things like deciding whether or not you’ve already read Slaughterhouse Five. (It was on my bookshelf, so I picked it up yesterday, couldn’t decide, read the whole thing, and I think I have read it before.) Anyway, it’s cool that we’re all chatting about this…glad to know that kids who are motivated to succeed actually do exist beyond my imagination. I literally just googled “TASP + telluride” haha

Panic - Interesting idea. That’s entirely possible. Cornell II, anyone?

Earil - Oh, don’t be silly. If you don’t get in, I have a negative chance.

tremulant - Lucky you. I would get suspended for having a cell at school…

Also, I read that Asimov short story…pretty cool. My brother had a minor in quantum mechanics (I’m pretty sure this just means he took one class and slapped it on his diploma) but I remember him talking about the theory where the universe not only expands until extinction and subsequent re-creation, but also about how it happens all at the same time. I’m not too sure, I’m not all that big into the sciences. Pretty fascinating stuff though.

I heart Cornell II. I was actually rethinking my choices lately… Cornell II is still my favorite, but I don’t think I’d actually be able to stand the heat in Austin. I’m a delicate thing. (: So probably more like Cornell II, UMich, Cornell I, then UT Austin.

Wink, I can’t think that way.

i remember when i got notified for my interview last year. it was right before schools started. i had to act calm, hide my phone, and not be late to class all while trying to think when i could miss class.
cira: you can discuss with them about switching things around, if you get an interview.
i’m hoping for that skinny envelope…

and yeah, it would potentially make the decisions easier.

Wow. That was the biggest ant I’ve ever seen. I was physically afraid of bodily harm from it. Danggg.

Edited for
obvious Freudian slippage.

Urgh, I hate bugs. Ants especially. They have no respect for the fact that I want them to never touch me ever in my life.

Does anyone else ever get college email at 11 at night and think, WTH? What admissions officer is working this late trying to get me to come to their school?

I’ve been rethinking my choices too:
Cornell II, Cornell I (I don’t know why this one is suddenly so appealing to me; kind of irrational…), UT, UMich (it’s practically in my backyard)…

Just as a warning, Michigan should be pretty icky this summer, in terms of heat. The heat has been getting progressively worse year after year.

Melikes the buggies. I love ladybugs especially, and let them crawl all over my fingers. Praying mantises are sooo cool though. Ants are kind of…blah…

Mine were: Cornell II (seems to be popular…uh oh), UT, UMich, Cornell I

it wasnt that bad last year. though it kept raining. i got soaked through many a day.

Most people seem to have either Cornell I or Cornell II as their first pick…

Edit: I don’t remember much rain last year. But the temperature was always hovering around 95 degrees or so, which is hell for a Canadian like myself. Maybe that’s because I live on the drier side of Detroit…less precipitation in general…(although Ann Arbor is even further out in the same direction).

I’m mostly okay with ladybugs. They’re good luck (and one was in my room the other night maybe it’s a sign OMG BBQ!!!).

I thought everyone on here wanted Cornell I?

Why Cornell I? I just can’t seem to find that interesting enough to study intensively for six weeks…

no like three or four people picked cornell I. we discussed the merit of the seminar because porna felt it was not worth it. but hey some people see it as cornell is cornell .

and i do remember a few days of sweating through the sheets heat but that broke. there were a few days i was freezing though.

Yeah, I really want to go to one of the Cornell ones… Then I could check out Colgate and Hamilton too, as I’m coming or going.

I feel that there is potentially more to discuss in Cornell I than the UT seminar…Caribbean history and culture is actually very complex, not uniform in any way. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve suddenly started exploring Carib culture in both APWH and Spanish…
