If they didn’t tell you, don’t worry about it. Just review your essays until they get an interviewer lined up to go to your part of the country.

^^ Nah, don’t worry about it, unless you have some very urgent reason (leaving the country, etc.) to need your interview soon. If not, let Telluride contact you. Last year, I my interview wasn’t scheduled until 2 weeks after my notification.

congratulations to interviewees! you guys seem really on the ball, but i’ve got a couple answers to questions i saw a page or two back:
i got interviewed in person in the netherlands, and one of my taspers got interviewed in person in germany (she did have to take the train to another town). so henn, you still might get a live interview.
and YES, interviews vary widely. mine was deceptively conversational, with only one, incredibly friendly interviewer (no panel, thank goodness), and pretty free-ranging subjects. and it’s probably even better if you’ve changed your mind about something since writing your essay on it, because that suggests that you’ve remained involved and thinking about it.
try to see the interview less as a test than as a chance to get a feel for you in person. they’re trying to put together good mixes of personalities; of course they want to meet you.

Thanks for the advice everyone! (:
i’ll just wait… like you guys said…

Don’t worry about being contacted about your interview. Obviously if it is the end of march and it doesn’t happen then you should call. But regarding interviews the TA office and Ellen Baer won’t be emailing you. Instead it will be your individual interviewer so calling the office wont help.

Just to be nosy…what did people choose to write about for their essays? What books did you analyze?

Book - The Picture of Dorian Gray
Issue of interest - Agricultural subsidies
Conflict - Politics in the canadian debating world…
Education - university majors

Book: Clash of Civilizations (Samuel Huntington)
Problem: Capitalism being incompatible with liberal democracy
Conflict: How 60 lb weight loss shaped my personal identity

Book: Cat’s Cradle
Problem: Self-identity, memory, and perception
Conflict: A spider landing on my arm during a math test

Book: East of Eden - Steinbeck
Problem: indifference throughout history/child soldier crisis
Conflict: anti-Japanese sentiment vs. my pro-Japanese stance?

i think my problem/conflict essays were pretty weak, though… - -"

AAH I still haven’t gotten anything from Telluride…argh

I managed to call during school and I didn’t get an interview. Then I came home and I had an e-mail saying the same thing and that a formal letter would be coming in the mail. Wow. That’s like a 3x rejection right there.

I’m only kind of disappointed. Too bad because I would have totally rocked out my interview. I didn’t realize how much I wanted to go until my application was done and sent in. But I guess this is what happens when you don’t put your heart and soul into something. =] All non-interviewees just remember - there are like 500+ other people in the same boat as you. Good luck on the interviews to everyone else and remember to have fun!

^ oh I should have called…shoot, now I have to wait till Monday :(

wow im freaking out here…i havent even gotten an email!

rejected :(

sigh why can’t they just make it a status on the application page

seriously guys, we need to find other ways to make use of summer

there’s got to be other good programs somewhere…

book: something from Wilhelm Busch in english ( thought it was pretty weak )
issue: Holocaust denial -> american free speech vs. the german legislation
conflict: finding out about the SS past of my grandpa
future: me being 80 years old and talking to me younger self

Three of you wrote about books I just read recently, East of Eden is still my favourite :-)

“Problem: Capitalism being incompatible with liberal democracy” * thumbs up *

I really hope to get a physical interview, actually the netherlands are closer than most major german cities. dtp is right, there was a girl interviewed in germany last year, but she was american and living on a military base somewhere in Hesse.

Good morning

i haven’t gotten an email either =((

aghhh i’m scared…what’s going onnnn
