Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

What line in the #5 essay was it, and why did it warrant so much discussion?

Kara, which was your top choice program?

On a side note, I’m a URM, but I also feel like 09910745 is a little bit insane. I’m not sure why this has to be such a huge deal all the time. AA isn’t inherently bad, and the thing that many caucasians forget is that our world isn’t perfect. Being white ensures a lot of advantages, but most of them stem from a strictly psychological basis. While economic status ensures equality at some extent, racism and bigotry will always exist. Not trying to ruffle anyone’s feathers, just trying to mediate a little bit. Also, 09910745, try not to be such a prick. Yes, you’re very gifted, but not everyone needs to hear about your world travels or 16,000 AP tests. Let’s all be happy!

Tremulant1, I heart you. And my first choice was UMich.

(this isn’t AA-related, but is it just me or are there a LOT of URMs here this year in comparison to last year? At least 50-60% of the regular posters are URMS.)

I’m glad we’re out of control and on CC on a Friday night…awesome. Mine was Cornell II, mostly because I am obsessed with human rights and trying to save the world…sigh. Haha UMich was 2nd for me…I’m putting together a recycling program and the UMich background would probably push it in an awesome direction, but I’d be really happy with either one. Was your interview one of the terror-filled ones? My interviewer was so nice…even if I don’t get in, from the brief taste I’ve had of TASP I like it a lot hahaha

Seems like everybody except panic and I had Cornell II, but it hardly matters. They pick us out this weekend (EEEK!) and then they put the lucky 68 in seminars the weekend after. At this point, who really cares about their seminars? We just all want to go.

My interview was hot and heavy, like the Drama Club props closet. It was basically ESSAY, ESSAY, ESSAY, ESSAY, where can we get dinner? All about the essays, baby, with only 2 little questions from me that would have made anyone realize that we were talking about this for TASP. And the sushi place up the road.

Indeed. Mine was fun-filled and adventurous. Going to bed.

Moi aussi - after Whose Line ends.

[I</a> can has TASP admission? by ihasronaldreagan](http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/View.aspx?ciid=995973)

@ karajanhra:

“Using my study of the Latin of Book IV of Virgil’s Aeneid, which concerns the Roman deity/hero Aeneas’ visit to and exploitation of the African city of Carthage and its queen Dido, I could help the seminar to construct an archaeology of Western images of Africa which would extend back into the second millennium BCE.”

more a sentence than a line. it was essentially a one-off. i spend a lot of time on classics and therefore spent a lot of space writing about them in the application. i think that line of questioning was partly a test of authenticity (is she making this up to sound exotic?), but mostly a specific way to look for the general analytical ability telluride needs.

@ other posters

re. urm’s: i think (or at least i hope) that telluride understands diversity in a way broad enough to extend past skin color. an intellectual community where everyone belongs to the same race is a poorer community than it would be if more identities were represented. but the same is also true for gender/ gender identity, religious principles, ideological and intellectual backgrounds, ad inf. (i don’t think this is true if the community is deliberately constructed as a kind of “safe haven” for a particular group, i.e. hbcu’s and women’s colleges.) at any rate, even if you think affirmative action itself is bad, you ought to realize that you’re likely to benefit from a similar process yourself, even if applied to a different characteristic.

anyone here who has been interviewed by Max Montesino?

What…so why exactly am I insane?

wait, so when do they finalize the list of people who have been accepted? >.<

sometime between now and monday. then the next weekend (i think) they decide what seminars the accepted students will go to. after that they notify us.

such knowledge worries me…alot.

Eh, I prefer not to think about it. ;)

twitch One more day. One more day and I can stop sacrificing goats to the TASP gods. What am I saying?! The TASP gods’ hunger must be appeased! Quickly, fetch the white kangaroo of TASPness!

Monday? Giantredlobster said “the weekend”. Monday is not part of the weekend.

So if we call the TASP office on Monday and ask for the status of our application, will they tell us if we’ve at least been accepted into the program at all, even if they don’t know which seminar? I’m going to call and check.

I’ve decided I’m not going to call at all. I think I’m going to be rejected, and it’ll be harder on me if they have to tell me in real time, lol. :P

I won’t call either as I’m way to nervous and would only stutter a lot of senseless stuff. Probably they won’t even answer the question and only note that one has to wait for the official letter/e-mail

so…are we able to call tomm?
