That’s the one thing I’m absolutely not looking forward to. The heat. The highs in Austin for July averaged at 95 last year…add the humidity to that and…aaaggghh. Hopefully my brain will be so happy that I won’t notice the heat.

Hey! I just created an account here hoping I could meet some 2008 taspers. I just got my letter today, but I’ve been looking in at this thread every once in a while for quite some time.

Never mind…
I’ve just been reading how they don’t really want us to get to know each other much beforehand. I hadn’t considered that meeting half the taspers early might detract from the excitement once we get there, but now I think that seems reasonable. But I’ll be at Cornell II, and I hope to meet some of you there!

Lol Henning, looks like our facebook group is dead XD

Phew, got my letter today. Paranoia attack officially over. :D

Is noone else here going to Cornell I? Seriously? Nobody?

Well I left it because of their discouragement of facebook groups. It’s not that big of an issue, but I think we already broke it before we even knew about being in tony XD

You don’t have to feel lonely anette, we’ll grant you social asylum in our amazing cornell 2 group ;)

@ tremulant-

i live in arizona where it is regularly 110+ and even 120 in summer. you just don’t go outside between 11 and 3 or so. it’s why god made the nighttime.

I got my “formal” mail today
now I can … phewwwwwwwww

Hah, thanks Henning, I truly appreciate it.

Here’s a sort of tourist-y question…do Cornell TASPers get to go to NYC at all? Is it a planned event or do you go with friends on weekends and such?

So… Who else is counting down the days till June?

I def. am. school seems so in the way now that we have TASP to look forward to. I don’t think the TASP at Cornell goes to NYC. the trip isn’t exactly a short one

Cornell is at least 5 hours away from NYC so weekend or afternoon jaunts are sort of out of the question.

Amazingly you wont find a need to go into NYC because you will have so much to do just in Ithaca. With everything else going on you wont even remember that the city is there. Last year we went into Detroit once as part of seminar for the day, but I doubt the same just due to the distance.

the cornell TASPers don’t make excursions to NYC… i don’t think most of the TASPs make trips to anywhere outside their respective cities (ithaca, ann arbor, st. louis, austin), and if so not too far away. the only exception would be if you rent a couple of vans and all agree on it (we were thinking about taking a trip to detroit, but went somewhere else instead (about half an hour outside of ann arbor).

I wonder what I should put in for the social security number…

I got the official waitlist letter today. It’s actually very nice.

oh, is it encouraging?

Dear ____,

The Telluride Association Summer Programs Committee met recently to select participants for the 2008 Summer Programs. Unfortunately we are not able to offer you a place in this year’s programs.

But because your application was among the best the committee considered, you have been selected as an alternate. Should some of the students appointed to the program be unable to accept, you will be notified by phone and offered a position. We hope to know whether the participants can attend by May 16.

Unfortunately, we cannot predict the likelihood of someone’s withdrawing from the program, though in past summers a number of alternates have been placed. However, if you decide to make other plans for the summer, rather than waiting for this chance, we would appreciate your letting us know so that we can withdraw your name from the list of alternates.

We will notify you as soon as a space in a program becomes available. The committee appreciates the thought and effort that went into your application and wishes to thank you for allowing us to consider it.

Well, that sounds not too bad in my opinion
At least not the usual we are sry bla bla speech
good luck!
