Can someone call to see whether we can find out if we got an interview?

Is it advisable to ask the English teacher or it doesn’t really matter? Should I give the teacher my resume? I don’t really like how some teachers just repeat whatever is on the resume.

Or, can someone give me some tips in general? I’ve looked through the ‘asking for recommendation’ thread and should I follow the tips or there are some difference between applying for summer programs and colleges? Should I give the teacher thank-you cards? Should I give the teacher an envelope with addresses on it?

Besides I don’t really know if teachers like me or not. Getting good grades probably does not equivalent to being liked or does it? What should I do then?

That’s a lot of question marks but I would greatly appreciate whoever gives me advice.

I’m just going to see if/when I get in before I ask for a recommendation. To do otherwise would be to tempt fate.

Fingers crossed! Not really banking on TASP though, but I hope to at least get to the interview stage because I worked for a long time on those essays! But best of luck to everyone!

Question though: If we don’t get an email by the end of this week can we safely assume we have been rejected? How does it work?

The subject a person who writes your recommendation teaches is not as important as how well they know you as a student, so it doesn’t really matter.

That’s generally a good idea, a lot of teachers will ask for it. If you want to avoid that the best thing you can do is choose a teacher who knows you well. Club advisors are often good because you work with them outside of class, or teachers that you’ve had actual conversations with.

Yes, do both of these things, it’s common courtesy.

Can’t really help you there. Generally teachers like students who get good grades in their classes but it’s more important in terms of having teachers (or bosses or w.e.) like you to have a good rapport with them.

And will we be notified through mail or e-mail? (I know this has been asked, but I’m not sure what the definitive answer was)

Please don’t start calling en masse. They’ll come Friday at the very earliest. Calling won’t get you it any sooner.

The first time i called the woman said, “They haven’t made decisions yet, you will know later this week.”

The second time i called (different office) the woman said, “You can try again on Wednesday or Thursday, those are the latest days you should be finding out by.”

Or something to that extent…

I emailed to find out my decision last year. If they respond, it’ll be with good news. I’m not sure how they let you know for rejections, but I think that if other people on this board emailed and heard positive news back and you haven’t gotten a reply, you most likely didn’t get an interview. (I’m not a TA rep or anything, so don’t hold me to that.)

Either way, good luck kiddies! Obstinate’s hatin’ on the call method (they don’t pick up during decision time anyway to prevent having to check statuses for a thousand applicants), but I think it’s okay to email if you haven’t heard anything by the end of the week.

@kameronsmith, how is it being a pest? I called two different offices in two different states. If calling them is going to make their decision to interview me any different than i made the wrong decision applying in the first place.

If i can call and get information about when decisions will be coming out then i will take that opportunity. I see nothing wrong with it yet you’re acting as if i’ve committed a sin.
