Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2010

^You should probably email TA about that ASAP so they can set you up with an interviewer in that area, if you haven’t done so already.

Good luck to everyone, and congratulations to all the finalists!

As my location indicates, I’m from CA. I was wondering why there weren’t as many acceptances, but now it’s a bit more clear.

Haha, I’m happy my 15-person estimate was inadequate, although I would have liked to be one of the interviewees. Congrats, everyone! Going off this thread for good now.

Does not getting an email mean that I wasn’t selected for an interview? I’m not really surprised, and I wasn’t planning on getting in anyway. Good luck to those who did get an interview, though.

@QuantumLipids: Yeah, it appears so. There might be some freak accident where an e-mail address was entered wrong or something, but no e-mail thus far means no interview. Evidently they’re sending out rejections via snail mail, but who knows.

@Lessist, I got in Yale’s Ivy Scholars Program last summer. It is extremely intense and will work your tale feathers off until midnight and beyond, expecting you up at 6 to do it all over again. My colleagues lost a lot of weight but gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from world reknowned profs. Only 60 slots are open to the world. Good fortune to you. My contacts helped me get in as an intern on Capitol Hill this summer. It had also significantly helped me in debating at state and nationals. Should you be interested in additional info., feel free to pm me.

wow, 16/37 so far! go CCers! and I’m from Indiana (bleh). =P

To the finalists:
Is someone willing to PM me a few of your essays so that I can see what they are looking for? Perhaps I just don’t have the quality that they prefer. Just one or two would be great. Thanks.

Yay!
I think I should leave the board though because it will just stress me out even more right before my interview. haha
Congratulations everybody!

Interview invite! I am pleasantly surprised, especially seeing how dedicated everybody is on college board.

And just for all of you who are devastated: I know how much you wanted it, but you’re going to find out that, if not the best writers in the country, a group of the most motivated writers around. The TASP program has a smaller rate of acceptance than most, if not all, universities. So saying you weren’t one of their favourite 107 TASPlicants doesn’t mean the world has been reduced to shambles. And at the very least, you all enjoyed and embraced the challenge. To quote my final essay, the TASPlication was an adventure. And I’ll remember it forever. I hope you do too.

What does the acceptance email say? and what time did it arrive?

ditto happysunshine:

Could any finalist post their acceptance email? Just curious.

No email, no surprise, lol. I’m also curious; if anyone would not mind PMing me an essay or two, please do so!

Congrats to all who got interviews!! You totally deserve it. Good luck in your interviews!!
As for my summer, I have to make up P.E. in order to graduate. Budget cuts are forcing me to take 2 P.E. classes over the summer, so it all works out.

I’ll post the beginning of it:

I am pleased to tell you that you have been chosen as a finalist for the
Telluride Summer Programs. You are now one of approximately 107
finalists competing for the 50 places in the 2010 programs. This year
finalists were selected from over 1,000 applications. Congratulations!

We would like to learn more about you by means of an interview conducted
during March through mid-April…

The rest just talks about the interview.

Now I wonder about the rejection email. Will we receive it tomorrow? I want something concrete to mark the end of my TASPlication journey.

I haven’t really posted because I didn’t want to get my hopes up (and I thought my essays were genuinely awful–I guess my unedited, rough-around-the-edges approach worked) but I’m SO EXCITED! Ahhh I literally cannot believe this madness but I’m trying to keep my hopes down about the interview…I’m either hit or miss in those kind of situations.

I’d love a PM of some essays too, if you don’t mind, that is. :]

someone asked where everybody was from : I’m from Morocco, but I currently attend a high school in NM.

As an TASPer in 2009, I want to advise you not to share essays or form really close contact before interviews and before TASP itself. I know that the temptation is there to interact with like-minded people ahead of time, but going in without knowing anyone makes you vulnerable. In that vulnerability you grow and engage honestly in a community of strangers soon to become friends. Part of the mystique of TASP is its ability to construct this sense of community without you even realizing it, but to do this I would strongly urge you to remain strangers until the day you arrive, vulnerable and excited to begin TASP.

Good luck to all in the next round.
