Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2011

Yeah never mind I’m not even sure if I’ll apply anymore because of the price and it doesn’t sound nearly as fun as other programs (though it does seem very intellectually beneficial). But yeah TASP lets go haha this is all I have besides Boys State, so I’m kind of nervous for the decisions that are coming in a few weeks >.< On another note, how are you guys feeling about how we have it the toughest in all of history to get into college? Haha

next year will even be tougher. And they’ll always say that many years to come

Does TASP give much weight to teacher recommendation?

I think they take the recommendation into consideration, but I’m guessing it’s like grades and test scores in that they look at it but it won’t make or break your application. At least that’s what I’m hoping - I get along really well with the teacher I asked for a letter and I’m sure he’ll write me a glowing rec, but he was away last week and couldn’t send his letter on time so I’m not sure what will happen.

Am the only one that checks this thread daily just out of habit? D: Even though I usually don’t post haha

you got me redhanded

I admit to doing the same. By the way, I had my interview yesterday. It was decent… nothing that I expected, quite honestly. Now the waiting kicks in once again -_-

Well, fellow TASPlicants, it looks like we have at least three weeks to go until decisions come out. Nothing to be done anymore, or so it seems–besides tracking our collectively deteriorating sanity and increasing stress levels…

where can we find more info on the rules of tasp? their views on drugs, sex, and rock and roll. and yes, i do mean that figuratively.

You guys are not the only one. I had my interview a while ago, and I’ve been checking up on the thread too often. I want to know decisions already! Sigh. Only 3 more weeks? LOL.

hahah same here.
It’s been too long.

I’ve been creeping this thread and finally decided to sign up to cc! I got an interview although I have no clue at all why and how, my essays were err, not the greatest (yeah procrastination!) and are pretty demonstrative of my incompetency. My interviewers are all grad students, and it’s taking place at a cafe. Dumb question time: do I have to order something? I have never ever been to an interview before and are as socially maladjusted as they come. Do I shake hands? Blaaargh.

At my interview my interviewer said the Association pays for drinks so I got something haha and I can’t remember if I shook hands… I think I did. Best of luck! But I haven’t heard of anyone’s interview being exceptionally bad so I wouldn’t be worried :)

Does anyone have any backup plans if they don’t get into TASP?

I have a lot actually. I’ve applied to 5 more programs

No, you don’t have to order something, but yes, you should shake hands.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but, thank goodness there is AP testing soon so I don’t have to think about TASP more than the bare minimum haha. And my backup plans are orchestra and church camps, so whatever happens come the end of April, my summer will be great :)

Geez!

If I don’t get in I’ll just work (assuming I can get a job amidst the high school summer job rush), volunteer, read, watch movies, and maybe even take part in this weird thing called a “social life.” Regardless of what happens, I’m looking forward to it. :)

And youwrotethis, I hear you on the AP test thing (especially with my APUSH teacher assigning us about a chapter of notes a night so we can finish all of the material in time), but TASP has still managed to seep into my subconscious. I’ve had two dreams about it thus far and they seem to be getting progressively weirder - the first one was about a secret final portion of the application process that involved going on an enormous scavenger hunt (I remember a Chinese circus and the TARDIS…) and the second one was a rejection dream where only 5 people were accepted to the program via a live broadcast, which ****ed me off (am I allowed to say that on here?) and forced me to blame a friend of mine who happened to be sitting in a hot tub with a giant green hat on.

At least there are only a few more weeks until the wait’s over, for better or worse (unless I get waitlisted, which would be purgatory)!

Just to help shed a bit more light on the process, I’ll tell you all this: the interview is weighed heavily in the final decision. As in, the interviewer(s) ranked their interviewees in order of preference for the program.

Take this as you may; for those who had amazing interviews, it’ll be reassuring.

how many candidates are interviewed per interviewer?
