Tense question

  1. No sooner had Andrea del Sarto traveled to France to work for the French king (but his wife persuaded him to return to Italy. A) But his wife persuaded him to return B) But his wife had him persuaded into returning C) Than he was persuaded by his wife that he will return D) But he was persuaded by his wife into returning E) Than his wife persuaded him to return

Though answer E is right, I was thinking a bit about answer C. If the only mistake, lets assume, is will, what should substitute it to make it correct (aside the passive --> active)?

Even if you ignore “will” in C, the expression “persuaded that he would” is non-idiomatic. You persuade someone to do something, you don’t persuade someone that they will do something.

Also c is in the passive voice which is not favored by the CB
