Hi,
How hard would it be to double major in Tepper (Management Info Systems) and Mathematical Science (Operations Research concentration)
Is it even possible in 4 years? Thanks.

CMU offers a joint BS in [economics and mathematical sciences](http://www.tepper.cmu.edu/undergraduate-economics/academics/curricula/majors-in-economics/bs-in-economics-and-mathematical-sciences/index.aspx). I believe it’s not exactly what you are looking for, but probably your best choice to graduate in 4 years.

Does that mean you think it is not possible to combine MIS and OR? Tepper is supposed to have a relatively low courseload. And isn’t there a way to do a double major instead of a dual degree, which gets rid of some requirements?
From the Undergrad Academic Regulations:
Requirements: If the double majors involve two different colleges OR the same college, the student must fulfill:

* all requirements (including core) for the first major degree as defined by the home college;
- all major requirements (including core prerequisites) for the additional major;
- any specific requirements for double majors imposed by the department(s)/college(s) involved.

Anyone ?..

I imagine it’s certainly possible, though it might require a bit of tricky scheduling and overloading.

I’ve been doing some searching, and the catalog removes many of the MCS degree requirements when in a double major. Specifically:

Double Major Requirements
All degrees offered by the Department are available as a second major to students majoring in other departments. Interested students should contact the Department for further information and guidance. In general the requirements for a second major include all the required courses except the MCS core, free electives and 21-201 Undergraduate Colloquium.

On a second note, do you need to apply for a double major or can you just sign on?
Thanks

I believe you just sign on for a second major as late as you want, but you should probably do a little paperwork with the department so they know you’re intending to double major. That way you’ll be eligible for slots in the classes reserved only for in-major students.

Thanks Racin.
Anybody else?
