Bummpppppppp…

@java23 can you chance me for the tepper school of business?

Your gpa is going to make you competitive for admission. Also you have a very good ACT. Being out of state or in state will not affect your chances as it’s a private school. I think your extracurriculars are great and they will put you over the top. Chance: 8.7 out of 10

Bumppp

You’re competitive. Strong points are act, being from Memphis, curriculum rigor, and boost from Upward Bound. It means our odds may be as high as 40-50% which is basically as high as can be for a school that selective.
Have you run the net price calculator though, because cmu does not meet need and it may well be unaffordable, and if your financial need is high the fact that they’re need aware could get you denied depending on how much financial aid you need.
Where else are you applying ?
What’s your efc? Your parents ’ budget?
Are you applying to Vanderbilt and Emory?

@MYOS1634 I am applying to Vanderbilt University College of Arts and Sciences. I got two separate letters of rec from the lawyer. One is a letter of rec strictly for Vanderbilt- it is detailed on how interested in vanderbilt i am ( from what I told him about my passion for the school ) and how he has known me and how enthusiastic I am in pursuing law/finance. The other is for any other business schools I am applying to. That letter details how passionate I am for business and how much of a great worker I was and how ambitious I am. I think both letters of rec were solid, but I think that he vandy one is better because he graduated from vandy law school. He knows a lot about vandy.

@MYOS1634 I have not done the net price. I am applying to nyu stern, vandy, ut austin bhp, umich ross. My parents’ budget is about $25k. Also, I will include my mother’s death in my application and how I continued to succeed. I met the lawyer at upward bound.

What’s our efc?
Your priority today should e to run the NPC on each of these schools.
All these schools are automatic reaches, so what are your matches/targets and safeties?

You have good ECs, a somewhat higher than average ACT, and a slightly lower than average GPA (especially weighted).
I’d say it’s a high match, write an absolutely killer essay.
Just keep in mind that it’s insanely competitive.

Not as much as ivies but compared to its rival schools.

@MYOS1634 here is my efc
CMU- Idk yet
NYU- $28,572 ( we can not afford that ) ( NO LOANS though, will apply for mlk scholarship)
Vandy- $19,832 ( will apply for opportunity vanderbilt and merit awards)
UT Austin-idk npc was difficult to find
UMICH-$8,500

For cmu, they I will have my efc report in a couple of days. For ut, i am going to keep looking for a npc. However, can you look at nyu, vandy, and umich?

Can you afford 20k/ year?
Umich and vandy are the cheapest - for similar costs look at Rhodes, Davidson, the Claremont that matches you most, and for merit Temple honors, UAlabama honors, uncw, jmu, cnu.
UT is 52k oos (no scholarships /financial aid) , 27-30k instate (mostly state loans and federal financial aid for the rest.)

@MYOS1634 I can not afford 20 thousand a year. I won’t be going to ut then. I don’t want to look into those schools. I need to go to a selective school for investment banking .

Grab a Fiske guide… You’ll realize most of these are highly selective colleges.
For ib: Middlebury, Colgate, McKenna, Hamilton, Boston College.
Priority : use your search engine and calculate your efc asap.
Have you run the NPC on Tepper?
Regardless of IB wishes, you’ll need affordable matches and safeties - meaning you need to know your efc and whether your parents can afford it.
(because vandy 's pretty generous, I’m guessing our efc is around 20k).

@MYOS1634 okay thanks. My last question is though my gpa is about .6 points too low for vanderbilt ( i have a 3.72 not a 3.78 ) , I have been earning all A’s for the last two years ( sophomore and junior year ). Will that help? I started hs with a 3.0, now I have a 3.72
