Terms of admission

In our terms of admission it states, as most college acceptances do, that we have to complete our last semester at equal or superior quality. Um, so…I’m struggling in calculus. Math is my weakest subject…I’ve always hated math. And I think I’m going to be able to pull a B this quarter. We had the first part of our final on Thursday and the second part is tomorrow. I had an A- last quarter. At any rate, the highest I’m going to be able to get for the semester is a B.

For me, that is definitely below what I was accepted with.

Does it matter? Will it change anything?

Thanks!

Nichole, no worries! Dropping to a B will not hurt you, especially since it sounds as if this is the only class in which you have slipped a bit. When colleges include that language, it is to prevent “senioritis” in which some students decide it no longer matters and drop to seriously sub-par grades. If you got a D or E, then you might have cause for concern. You’ll be fine. Go for the B, but don’t worry about your AU admission.

I did once know of a student who truly blew off his last semester after signing for a Lacrosse scholarship, got E’s (F’s), and the school dropped him from the HS LAX team and then the college dumped him. But, seriously, he got less than a 2.0. That’s why colleges include that language!

I’m having the same problem with math except I’m border line B/C. If I get a C will AU take away my offer?

I’d be really surprised that they would take away your offer when a C is passing and presumably your other grades are still strong. Offers are removed for failing or poor grades across the board, not a dip in one subject. A 2.0 might be a problem, Do your best, and they’ll forgive you. Good luck!
