Today I was at Walmart for a job interview, and as I was entering, there were two older women (about 60), and one of them was mentally challenged and was walking away and the other one was calling for her to return. I just never realized that mentally challenged individuals have to deal with these problems for a lifetime. It seems so unfortunate that one should spend a lifetime without typical mental faculties

^Did you think those mentally challenged people in HS suddenly become geniuses in college (if they go to college)?

How did you know she was mentally challenged?

I guess I never considered what happened to people in that situation

The other woman was yelling her name, and she had a stuffed animal in her hands as she was walking in the other direction

seriously? they’re not terribly unfortunate, most are pretty happy which is all one hopes for in life. The special ed generally learn basic building things, sewing, whatever and I know a lot end up working at this factory that makes things for the blind and also army stuff? They really love that job, everyone is usually mentally challenged or blind and there’s a lot of resources to help them. I remember going on a tour and following this business manager of it for rotary club, a lot of fun.

I want to get a job at Walmart. Just so I can quit. …by trying to start a labor union.

But I’m sure they can have totally happy lives, if they’re treated well (the same could be said for everyone else, too).

Rofl smart ones. She probably just went a bit crazy when she got old. Probably has like dementia or something.

oh and my brother is autistic and he seems to live a pretty happy life. He gets to live for free and watch tv all day. All he needs is a woman and he would be set.

I became really good friends with two mentally challenged girls this year in school and I became jealous of their simplicity and perpetual happiness

^So true. I used to be really jealous of my brother. But then i thought it kind of sucks not being able to get higher in life you know? I don’t want to just live i want to experience stuff to.

^Exactly. Status and accomplishments arne’t important to them…they’re just happy to see another day.

My uncle has down’s syndrome. Just graduated high school las year [he’s 26]. he’s perfectly happy and has an internet business [or works for an internet company or something like that]

astute observation, futurexecutive. I’m proud of you.

they don’t care about the same things we do. college, grad school, that stuff means nothing to them.

or if it does, they end up terribly unhappy.

At least they get sympathy…

Yeah yesterday I was at the mall yesterday w/ some of my friends and at the food court i couldn’t help but notice a large group of these young arab kids that were stuck in wheelchairs because of some physical condition that they had or because of a mental issue
it made my heart sink because i felt so bad & guilty for them…so when i saw them i counted my blessings again. At least they have good ppl that take good care of them :)

At school there are many kids that have down’s syndrome in special ed…but most of them are extremely happy and always energetic…they’re even quite social as well…making friends with the ‘normal/mainstream’ students. They even play special sports for sp. ed ppl.

On a random note : When i got up an hour ago and read this morning’s paper this afghani guy molested a sp. needs kid in his own home while he was installing something in the house…that disgusted me.

At my school special ed kids can play football. There was like three on my football team. Two were really really good and started. The other one was really bad and i don’t think he ever played because he was so slow. Not like slow in the mind but slow at running.

Maybe we should euthanize them? Solves the problem, right?

Hides and waits for someone to call me a Nazi

I support youth in asia.

^^that’s not even mildly humorous

if you’re going to euthanize them at least ask them if they want it first. if they do it might not be such a bad idea
