A copy of the criminal complaint is here: http://heavy.com/news/2017/10/michael-christopher-estes-asheville-airport-bomber-suspect/ WM 46, retired military, wearing a camo shirt in his mug shot. He identifies as Native American. The genius used his REI card when he bought the black bag. I wonder if this was just a retirement plan.

ASHEVILLE? I fly into that airport all the time. Yikes!

It’s interesting how this has received so little notice in the media.

If you web search for the suspect’s name, some news about the incident shows up, but mostly from local news outlets.

It was a thwarted attack, but he did get far enough to drop off his bomb. I’m amazed too that it’s getting no attention. That whole “war on US soil” should get everyone’s attention.

@romanigypsyeyes “See individual’s picture and name for reason why.”

He appears white but he identifies as Native American. I’m surprised certain news outlets aren’t jumping all over him as a Native American terrorist. Come to think of it he could have been making a statement about Columbus Day.

The link in reply #1 says that jail records identify him as American Indian / Alaska Native, not saying how that was determined.

There does not seem to be additional news so far about him or anyone else saying anything more about motives.

I would figure that the movie stars involved in the Harvey Weinstein scandal drown him out. :frowning:

His father refuted Estes’ claims that he is Native American / Alaskan native - “Jimmie Estes refutes both, saying the family is white and of European heritage, which is consistent with information in a state database.”

NBC national news had a very brief story on this last night. More than a week after it happened. Amazing. Very little detail and no possible motive noted in the report.

NPR had an article about how REI helped them catch the would-be bomber. It also mentions several other bomb plots from this year that I had either forgotten about or never heard of.
