Anyone have one? What is your experience with the absence of any traditional dashboard, and just the center monitor?
Still waiting for my notification, and I’m a day 1 signup person. If I lose the full tax incentive, I’m probably going to call it quits.
@ProfessorPlum168 - we got ours in February. We are idiots number 120k+ on the list (day 1 signup, too) but we own another Tesla vehicle. They apparently bump Tesla owners up the food chain. We are waiting for the all-wheel drive model to configure ours.
We realized that the biggest benefit of an eV so far is not wasting time to go to the gas station. The car is also much cleaner because no emissions… and there will be no emissions testing for plates renewal (which is a real PITA because there are only a few places that do them). No oil changes either. We have not had a “range anxiety” yet. That said, we need to test drive the 3 to see how different the central dash is. The local showrooms now have them.
@BunsenBurner - which did you get in February- the reservation or the other Tesla?
Our friends got theirs delivered to HI. We have ridden in it. It is smaller than their other, older Tesla, which is why they prefer the new one. They’re very pleased with it.
Model X has been hanging out in the garage since November.
We lucked out and got a demo car with 500 miles on it at a slight discount ($5k or so).
The invite to configure the 3 came in February. You can’t configure yours unless you are invited apparently. We are keeping our place in line for the all wheel drive. With our hills and black ice, Mr. B does not want a rear wheel drive anything but the truck.
That’s weird, I was a day 1 person (ordered online about 30 seconds after the online ordering system opened). Plus I live quite close to the Tesla factory so I should have been somewhat prioritized.
Do you own a Tesla or a powerwall? They prioritize current owners, apparently.
picked up my M3 last month (stood in line to order Mar 31). Love it. Surprisingly, the wife does too: “I really like driving this car.”
Took all of 2 minutes to get used to glancing to the right to see the car’s speed, as opposed to glancing down thru the steering wheel.
Thanks, @bluebayou . That’s good to hear.
Was looking into a Lexus RX450 hybrid, but I just can’t get past the ugly grill, and the prices are similar. DS’s reservation number came up but he decided to get something else. So he is looking into transferring his reservation, assuming we can take delivery in our home town.
A speculation from a message board (not allowed to link to it, so take my word):
“Tesla is already producing between 3,500-4,000 cars per week at this point. So, depending on where you live, this might just be because Tesla, in attempt to help as many purchasers as possible, prioritized WA state for as many cars as possible in late April-end of May (WA sales tax exemption is expiring on 5/31). Undoubtedly, this shifted delivery time frames for hundreds of people as Tesla went all out to get as many delivered in WA state as they could, even flying in delivery and service staff from other states to deliver 2-3x as many cars as they would have normally in that time frame in WA.”
DS isn’t in WA but there are incentives in his state too. Not mine. Not gonna drive it ca=ross country, even if they do have a map of supercharging stations to use
I could be wrong, so double check with Tesla. If your son already has an invite, he can buy the car for you to be registered in your name. The delivery will take place where the owner lives. Typical destination charges and tax will apply.
We stopped at a dealership yesterday and they gave him a special phone # for the 3’s. He tried calling today. It basically said “we are too busy- call another time” and hung up. It would be easier, I think, for him to transfer the reservation than for him to buy it and transfer title. The guy at the dealership said it wouldn’t be a problem to transfer the reservation, especially with the same last name, but he had no idea about delivery and the “3” people don’t work on Sunday!
I was somewhere around 300,000 on the wait list. Last Sept. we decided to cancel and purchased a Toyota Prius Prime Advanced instead.
We love our Toyota plugin hybrid however am sure we would have been very happy with the Model 3. I just could not pass up getting an invoice (NOT invoice plus, a first for me) deal on the Prius. Since my wife and I are very low mileage drivers, we have consumed a grand total of 2 tanks of gas in 8 months. This includes the fill-up from the dealer on the day I bought it. Besides Tesla range anxiety, real or imagined, I felt more comfortable buying a new model Prime versus a new model 3. In particular, I would be curious to hear from those of you who have had to have auto body repair work done.
I have definitely not ruled out owning a Tesla car down the road…
No range anxiety here yet, but we did get the long range X with 265 miles (90% recommended fill rate). Can up it to 295 if needed for a longer trip. I just saw that Elon says AWD is coming soon… need to revisit the website.
Jym, that confirms what I thought - the person holding the spot in line can register the car in the name of another. No title transfers needed, and delivery takes place in the state the actual owner lives (and all incentives from that state would apply, obviously).
Consumer Reports has tested a Model 3:

When it comes to CARS, CR is the last place one can look for a reliable assessment…

Transferring a rez to a family member is allowed.
Elon announced the 4wd and Performance models on Friday, so many rez holders were calling over the weekend.
