Most noise that I notice is from the tires rolling on the ground – yeah, the motor is that quiet.
Of course, ‘excess noise’ depends a lot on your ear. For those analysts that claims the m3 is noisy – not saying that its not – I’d love to see the decibel meter over say, a track, and compare that to an Audi 3 or BMW 3 series over the same conditions. I’m surprised that CR did not post thier diagnostics. fwiw: My daughter has a Audi 3, and I think her car is a little noisier at highway speeds. But that is just to my ear, and maybe hearing bias.
i can say, a few Tesla owners have posted youtube videos of a decibel meter running on city streets and the M3 compared favorably to other cars. Of course, those are just anecdotal reports. Again, disapointed that CR made the claim but did not back it up with a decibel number.
Also, I believe CR had a very early delivery model. Tesla has since changed the roof glass and seals, so the past thousands of production cars have been quieter. (But that could just be Tesla spin.)
If you search the net, you can probably find an example of a anecdote. (Can’t post a link for fear of violating the ToS.)
No noise issue that I am aware of. Pretty darned quiet other than the blare of the music
Separate PSA. The red (and possibly the white) touch up paints sold under the tesla 3 exterior accessory section of their website is not the right paint. The red on the 3’s does not have touch up available, so it seems
I would think tire brand and type would also contribute to road noise. A tire with higher rolling resistance would be noisier than one with lower resistance. My Prius Prime Advanced came with Toyo tires. Not a huge fan. They seem to be the only thing I hear when I’m in EV mode.
I’m afraid to ask how/why you had to find that out…hopefully, just a passing interest, and not a ‘need’. If the latter, I recommend the Service Center. Someone grazed my Red 3 in a parking lot and the SC was able to buff all the white paint out. Looks like it did when it came home from teh showroom.
I would not use touch up paint on scratches on a NEW car. I would first try what @bluebayou did. Touch up paint is for cars older than a few years… when the owners give up and begin to slowly junk them… maybe that’s why Tesla has none for the 3 yet.
I think the “cut” in my paint was done either along with the defect my car had at delivery or … who knows. I have texted back and forth with the mgr of the nearby shop and sent a photo. Will take it in.
Anyone have the new session 9 software yet (I don’t). Thoughts? I’ve gotten the messages about it but not the software upgrade. Feels like a bit of a tease
And am getting messages about how many stops away the amazon delivery truck is that has the waterless car wash and microfiber rag. Should this be exciting?
I’m in the same boat…Got the message, but no update yet. I think they are pushing it out to the S and the X first, so those of us with 3’s may be waiting awhile.
And just when I had pretty much figured out the current screen and where the controls are, now they are gonna change them! Maybe waiting isn’t so bad. The folks with the s’s and x’s who have had split screens (the 3’s don’t) are not happy that it looks like that’s being removed. But someone said it’s still there for them, just has to be accessed differently. Wonder if the 3’s will have the option?
Saw 3 brand new Model 3 Teslas driving by while waiting for the bus. I guess the MSFT dude did a good job helping with delivery, LOL. A handful of S and X, a couple of Leaves, and a cuuute Bolt. EVs are definitely popular in this 'hood.
Have to say that red 3 looked the best. Good choice, jym!
