Testing out of a foreign language class

Are there any possible downsides to testing-out of a single foreign language class out of 4 years of it?

eg, if I actually take 3 years of Spanish and then test out of Spanish 4

I couldn’t imagine why there would be. Colleges usually like 4 years of a foreign language, but if your third year is the equivalent course to what most people take as the fourth year then it’d be just as good.

No I mean, like if I actually take 3 years of Spanish and then test out of Spanish 4.

It depends on how you study and on how well taught the class would have been. This year I’m studying Spanish III on my own, and the downsides are that I don’t get to hear dumbed-down spoken Spanish (as opposed to Spanish TV or something, which is too fast for me to understand) and I don’t have any opportunities to speak Spanish to another person.
Also, the foreign-language classes at my school require you to learn specific vocabulary words, so I had to get the textbook they use and study the words they want. I didn’t have to do that when I tested out of math classes, because math is less variable (stupid pun intended).
There’s no downside as far as college admissions…the classes I tested out of look the same on my transcript as the ones I took the regular way.

Do you speak Spanish well enough to do that? If you can pass the AP exam already, you should try to do it this year.
