Texans, are you ready for Harvey?

When builders build houses, the framing is exposed to the weather. So I deduce it must be able to stand up to rain and still be structurally sound.

Most people who own a house can’t afford a complete rebuild.

I think being rained on and sitting hour upon hour upon hour in water are two different things. Some may claim it would be fine. But let’s just say, I’d never buy a house I knew had been through that.

Someone called it “Dunkirk on the Bayou”.

^Clever and perfect!

Anyone tracking Irma? Looks like Harvey was just a warning shot
https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2017/hurricane-irma?map=model

Hoping for the out to sea path.

Irma’s path has changed and it looks like it’s going to shoot the gap between Cuba and Florida. Just like the hurricane of 1900 did before it wiped out Galveston and killed 8000 people or so. Geez…

Just what Texas needs right now. :frowning:

Goodness. I don’t want Irma to hit land anywhere, but especially not Texas! Businesses are finally reopening, people are finally able to get back home to try to recover what they can of their homes, displaced familes are just starting to look for other housing, etc. While we are #HoustonStrong I don’t know if we could recover from another hurricane so soon.

It looks like it will veer sharply north, possibly slamming most of Florida. Few good answers here.

There’s a strong cool front coming down through Texas this week that will ,according to my favorite DFW weather folks, keep Irma out of the main part of the gulf. If you are in South Florida it looks like you should have plans to stock up, gas up, board up and pack up…which you already know.

It’s awful…you say “Oh, please don’t hit Texas again.” But by saying that, you are willing it to hit someone else…which you don’t want either. This is awful. I’d like to will it to turn out to open ocean, but apparently that’s not happening.

From the looks of it, it is going to hit the US somewhere. Cat 5, gusts up to 190 knots. If I had the ability to do so, I would get out of its way, and get out early. Maybe a little early to do so now, but maybe not too early for southern Florida. I don’t think I’d wait till a couple of days prior to make sure. This one looks awful, like Andrew, entire blocks wiped out. :frowning:

That Irma thing does not look too good… :frowning:

I know, Bunsen. I am watching its track, and I feel sick to my stomach. This could be worse than Harvey.

H was leaving for Miami next Sunday for a big meeting on Monday with a customer. Others were flying in from Europe for the meeting. They decided on a call this morning to cancel the meeting because of Irma. It looks like it could be really bad. Scary.

Well, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are part of the US, too, and Irma is barreling right towards them. No place to evacuate to there. :frowning:

The latest models from Weatherunderground tends to be agreeing that it will go up length of FL after turning north near the keys. I have a bad feeling about this.

They are talking 20" of rain in Miami. Hopefully, it won’t materialize. If it moves instead of sitting at one spot and pouring, it may not be so destructive. High pressure looks to be west of its path allowing it to move north unlike with Harvey.
