It is pouring here right now. We are over 8 1/2 in of rain now and still coming down for the next couple of days. We had gone to a party just a couple miles away and almost didn’t make it home!
@momocarly Did they serve Harvey Wallbangers at the party? (Am I aging myself here? )
it’s late August in cenral TX and we have our windows open it’s so cool! (great silver lining not paying for sprinlers for the lawn or AC!) prayers are with thouse in Rockport and other impacted areas.
@doschicos No, but they did serve hurricanes! Flooding around us is crazy right now. Glad we left when we did!
DW was supposed to fly into Houston Hobby this evening. That flight was diverted to DFW and won’t leave for HOU until the morning. Good thing we cancelled the ticket this afternoon.
Thoughts and prayers for everyone affected by Harvey. As a former resident of Clear Lake and Houston, I am so saddened by the situation.

I am late responding, but not too bad in San Antonio. There was a huge rush to buy water, beer and snacks at the grocery stores Thursday and Friday. A few gas stations ran out of gas. But we have had some wind and steady rain, so not too bad. Flights to northern cities are taking off on time. Our power hasn’t gone out and temps are much much cooler, in the seventies. The water reservoirs are full from the steady rain and the usual low lying areas are flooding, but we haven’t had crazy flash floods.
From what I’m hearing, it’s really bad in Houston. I so hate to hear this.
Catastrophic flooding in Houston:
^Hard to imagine a worse flooding disaster than Katrina, so let’s hope not.
Someone pointed out on the news that many Houston residents are refugees from New Orleans who ended up staying in Houston.
@ignatius thinking of you in Houston -
Just awful updates from weather channel
My BIL is the Houston Chief of Police. He hasn’t gotten much sleep or seen his family in a while. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Authorities have asked for citizens with boats to help with evacuated people who are trapped by rising water, because authorities are overwhelmed. They are telling people not to go to their attics, because they could be trapped, but instead if lower floors are flooded to get on their roofs. They’re saying that a few inches of water in the house is not an emergency, and only people with true emergencies should call 911. (Have to admit, it’s hard for me to fathom that six inches of water flowing through my living room wouldn’t be an emergency, but in the scheme of things, it is not.)
The pictures of I-10 look like pictures of a river.
OMG, that is unbelievable. I have seen floods of 6 inches to a foot, and that was scary enough. Hugs to all in the flooded areas.
Unfortunately, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
My S lives in the East Downtown neighborhood of Houston. His street is pretty dry still – just a few puddles. He won’t be able to get to work tomorrow, though. Roads between his home and his work are pretty impassable. He says he has plenty of food and his work laptop so he can work from home. Things can change quickly so I’m still a little worried for him. There’s a lot more rain out there yet to fall.

Checking in - I live just north of Houston on relatively high ground. No flooding immediately around me and I was able to find and go to a grocery store this morning. Had to turn around on one street, and saw that our local lake was out of its banks, so it looks like another major street will be under water soon. One of my coworkers in Houston has seen his house flood, was rescued, then the rescue vehicle stalled out and they had to be rescued again. With the rain still pouring down for the next few days, it’s going to get worse.
I hope you and your family are unharmed, @fireflyscout. How can people from out of state best help you and your fellow Texans?
Airports in Houston are closed.
