And my second choice is computer engineering
We see it, too. Whew.
@HowBoutDemBoyz will need @FriscoDad to weigh in, he’s the Engineering king.
But only having PreCalc is definitely going to hurt + not strong (enough) math test scores.
Unfortunately senior year grades don’t count/help.
Do you have other acceptances?
Do you live anywhere near one of the Engineering Academies? If A&M’s admission decision won’t be what you hope for, this is another option. Living at home, taking community college core curriculum classes and TAMU Engineering classes. Yes, you’ll have to take the three Calc classes before you can move over to College Station, but it might help with your testing confidence, keep a high GPA for ETaM and save money.
Starting in the engineering academy is a great suggestion for a student that doesn’t have Calculus and strong math scores on ACT/SAT. The professors at the engineering academies have smaller classes and are probably more willing to help students. It has been my experience with my son, who is a sophomore engineering student at TAMU, that first year calc and physics professors expected students to already know a lot of the subject matter and my son spent a lot of time teaching himself. Cal 1 and 2 at TAMU engineering are definitely weed out classes and my son was super grateful that he had really good high school teachers for math and science because he had already seen a lot of the concepts covered in first year engineering math and science. Keep in mind that while it is hard to get into TAMU engineering, it is even harder to stay in TAMU engineering. My son saw so many first year students drop out of TAMU or change their major because they were not prepared for the rigor of TAMU engineering math and science. It was very sad. Those kids might have had a better chance of success had they started with the engineering academy and gone through ETAM that way.
Totally agree! I understand this is only one example, but my Sophomore Computer Engineering Aggie lived in the Engineering LLC last year. Of those four Engineering freshmen, my son was the only one to ETaM and to get his first choice major. One suitemate ETaMed and got his second choice (Electrical Engineering - CPEN was his first choice). My son’s then-roommate is still listed in the directory as “General Engineering,” and the other suitemate is listed as BA in Information Technology Service Management, which I think is one of the two non-ETaM majors in the College of Engineering. The CoE is NOT for the faint of heart.
If he gets PSA there is still a pathway! My son got PSA in 2022 and was devastated at first, but went to Tarleton for two semesters and is now an Aggie Sophomore and doing awesome. Also, my other son did get the three options over the weekend, but we are still waiting on an answer for him. PSA and PTA are excellent pathways. If your son wants to be an Aggie, he can be. The Business major is the biggest hurdle. When my son went through the admission process and got PSA in 2022 I started a Facebook group for parents that has grown to almost 1800 members. We have a wealth of information in the group, so I recommend joining and gathering that knowledge in preparation for all the decisions that might come! Did your son end up getting into Mays from Tarleton?
Same situation here. Of my son’s three suitemates, he was the only one to ETAM after freshman year. The other three took three semesters and one of them did not get any of his choices so is somewhat unsure of where to go from here. And several kids my son had met have dropped out of CoE altogether.
I know this has been asked but I am struggling with searching on this forum. Have any applicants received rejection notifications for this session? Do they tell applicants “no” right away?
My nephew went to Galveston for ETAM. Took three semesters due to math class. Liked small classes but didn’t like G-Town (Dallas area resident). He got nuclear. His third pick but he’s okay with that.
A guy from church was direct admit to ETAM in CSTAT but transferred to Ag Econ after struggling.
Many get first choice picks in ETAM according to FriscoDad.
Does anybody know how many people who picked TEAM only when the options came out are gonna end up getting PSA?
@Abie456 i’m as new to this as you are, but the veterans on here have said that they haven’t seen anyone in at least the last three years report that they chose team only and did not get in. Obviously, our mileage may vary and why we are on pins and needles just like you, even though disappears to be a wonderfully positive sign. a lot of posters on this thread would trade places with us…
My son checked Howdy portal and had what appears to be way more than 7 tabs. (This changed from Friday when he had 5). However, his AIS still said, “In Review.” We are wondering if his AIS will update tomorrow?
@52AG82
Hi. That’s interesting and helpful information about accessing from 2 different devices. Is the problem if 2 are logging in at the same time? I would think a student should be able to use their cell and laptop at different times. It would be helpful to know for sure since I don’t want my daughter getting locked out! Thanks! I love this group!
@MMel no idea? It’s just what they grill into both students and parents during NSC.
Parents can also get their own Howdy portal-a very brief version (can view tuition, Meal Plan, print transcript & tax document, see Parking and FinAid). They go over this during NSC, can’t get it prior.
Parents should never be logging into student Howdy, the Parent Howdy is ideal.
No I don’t think they will lock you out for multiple devices any more, since they require to use DUO 2-f authorization. I am using many devices to log in, no problem.
Check Dashboard for more info (on howdy)
Two questions:
- How long is the norm to wait after the tabs change, and the AIS changes to state term, until an actual offer is posted? When I called yesterday the student rep gave a stock answer of we’ll know “by the end of March”.
This is a school that requires flights and hotels, and a few days of roundtrip at least. Trying to book visits to a couple schools that are scattered around the US, as well as skating for prospects day at accepted schools. The sooner we know the better.
- Does any merit or scholarship get awarded to OOS students, and if so is it part the offer letter, or a separate process?
Thanks much!!!
We checked his Howdy and AIS. I did not see much under My Dashboard BUT in AIS (though it still says Application Complete and In Review), we see that it says
Freshman, Summer 2024, and General Studies. Assuming this means he will be offered Gateway? Wondering when the system officially updates so he doesn’t have to “read into” what is on the screen?
As always, thank you for your help and insightful information! It is greatly appreciated while we play the waiting game!
