Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

Our HS (5A) counselor told my son he was a great fit for TAMU and was doing all the right things. I think they need to be a little bit more educated about the reality of the competitiveness and just be honest with the kids about the process. We’ve still heard nothing, no change. Still holding out some level of hope but lots of other kids we know have already either been waitlisted received options or direct admit.

It would benefit the student if it was a high SAT. But if a student has average to high average grades , say 3.6-3.8 in a mix of honors and regular classes with a few APs, their app doesn’t stand out. Most students in the suburbs have this, along with volunteer hours ,ect. The high SAT/ACT is an easy way to boost the applicant’s profile. It paints the picture that this student will be successful here .

Lol , they used to have something like this. I think it was called academic admit. ( not the top 6 Percent part, thank goodness). I am not sure why they got rid of it, but it got too large?

What may be happening…. With UT becoming so incredibly competitive, many top students from all over the state are now considering TAMU and submitting applications to TAMU. I think the applicant pool has changed dramatically in the last five years. TAMU is no longer a ‘safety’ school for bright, hard-working, higher-scoring students. It is quickly becoming as competitive as UT. And it is only going to get worse.

@ALL my sons friend got a straight out denial letter :frowning: I didn’t think those existed. His AIS stated view and it was a denial letter. So, I am grateful for the PSA opportunity. I spoke with my son and we re-read the PSA offer letter and it stated:
“We hope you’ll accept this opportunity to become a part of the exciting future that awaits you at Texas A&M!”

That part right there is the encouragement my son needed. :pray:t3: That he is worthy and it is hard work. So we are getting ready! I wish everyone extra luck and hope you take another look at what your options are and take advantage of what is right in front of you. It’ll all workout! :hugs:

I just wanted to share our experience so far to continue with what people have said about going test optional. I joined this group and another when my daughter started working on her applications. She has a good gpa, first quarter, good EC’s. Test score was good, but not great. I was advised she shouldn’t submit anything below 1300. She was a little below that but we decided to submit. Part of the reason was because she wanted to, but I also wanted her to feel proud of her score so I told her to submit. I am so thankful we did. She did not get full acceptance but she did get 3 options. I think if she went test optional she would be getting a PSA offer.
I do hope that admissions can provide more clarity moving forward. I hope we get Team soon! I appreciate the help received from this group! I have learned a lot and it’s been kind of a support group!

I have 3 kids at A&M, my oldest graduated in December and entered as a straight transfer from Blinn after being offered PSA thru Tarleton. He will start grad school this Fall. My middle son was holistic review, top 13% with average SAT scores. Applied late but was accepted in December, less than a month after he applied. My daughter was accepted via Gateway last Summer and is in the second semester of her freshman year. I don’t know the formula. I just know that if your child wants to go to A&M there are many ways to get there. Maybe not the way you or they envisioned, but if being an Aggie is the end game then it can happen regardless of what they see in AIS in the coming weeks.
That being said I believe the academic admit went away because you had so many high achieving students that were destined for engineering and the like. There was not enough room for all of them and they in fact did take up spots that that kids who want to major in Kinesiology or psychology were striving for. In other words providing alternate pathways for the engineering students at McAllen, Blinn and Galveston while eliminating the auto academic admit gave other kids a chance to be admitted holistically. I’m not saying the academics don’t matter, I’m just saying there isn’t enough room for everyone at A&M to enter engineering that wants engineering in CStat as a freshman, but there are other majors that other kids want that are just as deserving for what their life goal is. Not sure if that makes sense but that’s why the academic admit went away IMO.
Just remember there is a path. Praying for all of you as my kids have cried, celebrated and agonized over the Howdy portal more than I care to admit.

Is anybody else getting really nervous about not hearing anything back from TEAM yet? I just got capped at UT so im really hoping on A&M just getting so nervous that I havent heard back!

Hi :raising_hand_woman:t3: ,
Can you tell me what ‘capped’ means?

Its basically their version of PSA! You go to a UT system school(UTD, UTA, etc.) for a year and then transfer in(only for liberal arts though)

Some of my son’s classmates got their TAMU rejections today during the day at school, and I mean rejection not PSA. He said it didn’t go so well as many students fell apart and were crying…

Its so hard especially with a school you thought you had a good chance at :mending_heart:

Please feel free to ask me any questions about PSA. I did PSA in Corpus, loved my time there and would highly recommend the campus. The transfer process to TAMU was smooth, and I’m now in my second semester at TAMU.

@Abie456 have you toured MS State? It would’ve been my Aggie’s #1 choice, if their business school had been ranked higher. We FELL IN LOVE with State!! It reminds me of what A&M was in the 80s-heavy tradition, lots of land/sprawling campus, creamery on campus, great dorms and strong campus pride.
Never met anyone who went there, that didn’t love State!

I haven’t toured it yet but i’m going over spring break! I got a really great scholarship there so its one of my top choices. Im only worried about being so far from home because Im afraid ill miss my parents and sisters too much lol
