Gateway questions
We know it’s great and all, but if a kid is bubble, is it the soft start vs balancing 2 schools that’s the benefit compared to team. We thought team would be better than Gateway for her because you are full admit afterwards.
I also know from my experience, transferring later you have to watch your GPA harder because the CC grades don’t come over and you are in upper lever harder classes by then.
Only you & your student can decide.
Blinn TEAM requires an overall average-in both classes taken at A&M and classes at Blinn-in order to change majors to the desired major. Sometimes that isn’t easy, especially for competitive majors.
Google internal change of major requirements to see the specific Ag major your student wants, and you can see the required classes and gpa. Entering via Blinn pathway agreement and/or General Studies will require the same gpa and pre-reqs. Entering thru Gateway will almost always get you into your major sooner.
After summer Gateway session, students enter as General Studies majors, then start taking classes that apply towards their desired major.
Everything at A&M is competitive. It is competitive to get into clubs & orgs, sports passes sell out, parking is a lottery, there aren’t enough dorms, course registration can be a disaster, on & on. It’s isn’t for the faint of heart. My kid is naturally competitive, and THRIVED in that environment!
You have to know your kid.
Everyone will agree…Gateway is hands down the best pathway offer at A&M. It is literally called Gateway To Success
Son got in this morning! gen engineering. I was so worry yesterday seeing all these posts and my son didn’t get any option offers. Thank you for your kind words.
He also got in UT math last night but I think he will pick TAMU!
Great to hear that regular offers without options can still come through. Hoping it’s for all majors and not just engineering. It appears it’s just been Eng today (you without options and someone who had options last week)
I’m not understanding your question but I saw that @52AG82 replied so maybe you got your question answered.
But what? Your girl got Gateway, 100% better than team. She’s full admit from the start. 2 core classes in the summer. Then gen studies. She’ll have no problem with change of major to Ag.
If you want to help future generations get a leg up on getting into A&m, please please please encourage your high school to tell the entering highschool freshman at orientation that if you want to get into A&m you must be top 10% and if you want to get into UT you must be top 6%. I heard these words in my son’s freshman orientation in 2015 and again in 2017. It was eye-opening to me and so thankful the counselors took the time to point that out. Of course we learned later you could get in holistically, but of course it is a huge competition with limited spots and too many well-qualified applicants.
My first son was 10% and my second was admitted holistically the year TO was available. Although it’s true a low SAT score can’t hurt you, a high SAT score can definitely help. And with lots of holistic applicants getting high SAT scores…
So, please have a word with your high school counselors. Highschool Freshman orientation it’s just around the corner
@Christi1993 Maybe there is no right answer for this question, but our son got the three choices last week and picked Blinn Only, so hoping he hears back fairly soon. However, he was admitted to UT last night. He didn’t get his first choice major, but when I looked up the UT internal transfer requirements for Econ major in the College of Liberal Arts, I was surprised to see there is no GPA or UT hours requirement. When I look up the internal transfer requirements for Econ at A&M he would need 30 A&M graded hours which seems almost impossible on the TEAM path. Does A&M really not accept Blinn or other college hours for an Econ change of major? Thanks for any thoughts on this!
I don’t think there is a direct guaranteed pathway from team BUT here’s the link for transfer and it should follow closely with this. Even if team, you can always petition to go full time to Tamu if meet major requirements.
Advanced math like discrete math and differential equations outweigh all ECs the last two cycles. It proves over and over again that admissions’ main concern is students’ math survival ability. Parents and future engineering students should take note on that.
Curious what engineering major your student is planning? I just PM you a list of ETAM preparation you can forward to your student.
@FriscoDad His desired major at both schools is Econ. He did not get his first choice of Econ major at UT but the internal transfer process seems much easier than TEAM to Econ. @Christi1993 at what point could he petition to go full time to A&M?
I have a daughter still in review for Construction Science. Twin brother got Gateway recently (yay). We are OOS - will A&M post a rejection letter? Are all opportunities extended at this point? How can you tell if a major is full? Thanks so much.
Sorry to hear the twin is still waiting. That’s got to be rough for her… and you.
I don’t think everything has been sent out yet. You will get a decision and it will be communicated to you. You will not be left wondering. Now when that happens, no clue. As far as how we know if a major is full… only when someone on here states they received their 2nd choice major with cosci being first choice (for example). Hang in there.
Daughter got into Mays but found out last night that she did not get into McCombs
( she got into Moody Communications, her second choice). Any advice on which path would be best for getting into law or grad school down the road?
