Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

Thanks FriscoDad. Good perspective. Over analyzing is interesting though and gives me something to do while we wait!

Update on our friend’s son - received PSA this morning.
He applied for Kinesiology on 11/1 and had a 1150 on the SAT, a 3.5 UW GPA, many EC’s, volunteer hours, and a job. He plans to decline the offer and go to another state school in Texas. He was hoping for BLINN but not having that option, he believes he will get a solid education in kinesiology another place.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned or not, BUT, for those that got the 3 options on 1/27, it specifically gave a March 1st deadline to choose one of the 3 options or automatically get PSA. In past years, was the deadline to respond to the 3 options also 5 weeks later?

If not, I’m wondering if this is what is causing the holdup on releasing decisions. Maybe they have to wait until March 1st to see the total responses and then decide what to do.

Just a thought…

I wondered the same thing. If a student with three options picks the very last day of February, are they in the same pool as my kiddo that picked 20 days ago? Waiting until March 1st seems like torture.

Last year’s options went out 1/31 with a March 1, deadline. Those students who responded Blinn Team only right away heard back on 2/15 and some who responded between then and the deadline heard back very quickly if I remember correctly.

Ok, so that theory is blown. I just can’t believe it’s taking so long to let the students that chose Blinn Team only know the decision!

Campus was even closed last year for a day or two due to an ice storm between when options went out and when offers were sent. So if you think about it, it actually took even less time to admit the options kids last year, assuming no work was being done during the closure.

My daughter too. She had 12 hours college credit too. It’s like what else can you do?

@Christi1993 @FriscoDad what do you all make of this long wait for the 3 options folks who picked Blinn Only?

Or, I should say, TEAM only.

I know this is a bit late, but we just settled on a&m. We’ve looked around for a bit for the housing application but couldn’t find any. Are all the spots filled for residence halls and cadet dorms?

Are you saying you just down housing deposit? If so, then yes. They are in a temp housing status right now. Plenty of off campus housing available that’ll still feel like on campus living. Try Park West.

No idea but assuming they are just knocking out PSA first and then will get to team only and then move on from there to team/waitlist.

@Alcoryn is your student joining the Corps?

Curious if there has been a big leap in those that chose TEAM only out of 3 options, forcing them to adjust how they are evaluating TEAM vs waitlist.

There are places just off campus that will feel very similar to the on campus dorm experience, the main differences are: not locked into the meal plan, and will have to have a 12 month lease rather than a 2 semester lease. The good news is, if you like it, you can renew off campus and never have to move your stuff out till you graduate.

If I had to go in blind from out of state or something and could not get on campus, I would look at the big apartments just north of University Ave. and also Park West on the other side of campus. They will all have pluses and minuses. While on campus is nice, it also has its pluses and minuses, it’s a huge school, everyone compromises, but I would put a high value on being able to walk to class that first year. It probably takes 15-20 min to drive the perimeter of the campus on a school day, unless it is 5pm on Friday, then it might take 30 min. I am not exaggerating, I was just on campus Thursday. I would not stress one bit about not having a spot on campus. The area around the campus is super student focused.

I agree. I live at The Rise at Northgate, right across the street from campus, and walk to most of my classes, except I take the bus for the ones in west campus. I have a car and have not driven it once to get to class.

Your child will live in the dorm with the cadets.

That is my guess! Trying to figure out how many they can accept into TEAM and then sorting out who will get TEAM, opportunity major and PSA.
