Cindy- you’ve done such a great job starting the PSA/PTA FB Group - do you want to start another one for this group like was mentioned yesterday??? :grinning:

Howdy Question - We are exploring the 7 tabs and noticed under ‘My Dashboard’ there is a Holds notification. It’s requiring we select the Tuition Rate Code before we can register. Anyone have insight on which is best if using Hazelwood VA Benefits to cover cost of tuition?

It’s basically asking if you want fixed or variable tuition. Given inflation recently, I think the common belief is that fixed will be cheaper over the long run.

Call AggieOneStop and verify. Because you are using Hazelwood, that makes a difference in what you select.

Seven GLORIOUS tabs! It’s been a long, hard road since August 2023… but we finally made it to AggieLand!
This Longhorn officially has TWO Aggies, and I couldn’t be prouder! The boys joked I would have to get an Aggie flag for the yard once they both got in… I guess it’s happening LOL
THANK you so much to everyone, especially the moderators of this board for all the encouragement and wisdom. This admissions cycle was a doozy!!!

There is a tuition freeze now, so if they extend that variable might be the way to go. Also, might depend if your student is planning on grad school at TAMU.

check your DMs!

It’s a complete gamble. My Aggie is class of 2026. We read all the material available about it. It said fixed would be a 4 year average that factored in annual increases. . So we did it. Then the Texas legislature gave a&M millions to freeze tuition for two years. I hoped A&M would do the right thing and adjust our tuition to account for the freeze- recalculate the average. Nope. They announced variable rate students would not have their tuition increased for the next two years. Fixed tuition would remain the same. We are paying an extra $1000 per semester for our daughter’s freshman, sophomore, and junior year. $6000 more than if we had chosen variable. Several of us have written our representatives to address this problem that only students who chose variable benefited from the tuition freeze and those who chose fixed have annual increased fixed into the average and A&M has not adjusted it and does not plan to. Sure senior year when the freeze ends they will probably increase tuition but not $6000. Choosing a rate code shouldn’t be a significant gamble. They also made another change last year to differential tuition that they announced would decrease tuition for some majors and not result in an increase for any majors and again they said only for incoming students and variable rate students. The fixed rate factors in annual increases. So if you do variable and it goes up it will likely not outpace the fixed which factored in annual increases anyway. But if they don’t increase tuition only variable benefits and fixed is stuck with the higher amount. Of course they technically could do some giant increase and it would only affect variable students and not fixed. But to my knowledge this hasn’t happened yet. So it really is a gamble. I think they need a better system that ensures all students pay the same amount. A lot of us are pretty bitter about it.

My two older boys (class of 21 and class of 24) both selected fixed. I did an analysis based on historical increases before #1 started and it was almost always more beneficial to select fixed.

I’ll say it again-Hazelwood is different. You won’t have a choice, they will tell you which to select.
Those using Tx Tomorrow Fund, TGTP etc can only select Fixed, so I’m assuming Hazelwood is the same.
Verify with AggieOneStop, they will tell you.

Another Longhorn parent here - funny how this works out. My two older sons are Aggies (21 & 24), and now #3 boy will be one too. Daughter (HS 2026) is pretty adamant about going to UT though…….we’ll see.

This is true historically and this is why we chose it- but recent years it hasn’t played out this way. Who knows how it will work out for future years. Hence the gamble. Which is frustrating.

Great details. I need to look at this before my son makes the selection.

*Holds on account must be cleared before NSC, for course registration. So you have time! Holds don’t affect registering for NSC.

Incoming freshman will have a NSC Checklist, which they need to keep up with, check pretty often. It’ll be very clear what they need to do, what is missing, etc.

So…I just got off the phone with Aggie OneStop (chose option #2 - admitted students). He said that the 7 tabs is urban legend, and that it does not mean anything. AIS is what we need to pay attention to. Considering my son’s hasn’t changed, I’m not sure what to think. How deflating!

They always say that. I have yet to see anyone get 7 tabs and not get admission. Congratulations to you and the others getting the extra tabs. Hopefully you’ll get the official notice today.
