Based on the stats your student should get in for sure.

Double check make sure SRAR has courses in progress especially AP Calculus. Also make sure pre-Cal was recorded correctly in SRAR. Check for any missed email from TAMU. Check if all green-checked in AIS.

Yes, yes, & no emails! All green checks since mid Aug. Just a waiting! :pray:t2:

Have there been any additional holistic admits for kinesiology in recent days or are they done from what you can tell?

HWe have a friend that is 25.8%, 1100 SAT, 12 AP classes and a couple of 3’s on the exams. His SRAR and all final documents were updated to reflect 11/1/2023. He is a 4-year track runner and leader, has had a job as a manager, very well rounded and strong essay. Has a sister at TAMU College Station currently. He is hoping for at least BLINN team like his sister but he knows kinesiology is competitive. He regrets selecting both choices as kinesiology and would have selected biology as a second choice if he had it to do all over again.
Thanks for any info you might have.

Kinesiology is not competitive. it’s an open major at tamu, so if he is admitted to the school, he is admitted to the major. We were told this in person by the guy giving the kine major talk on our tour.

@WBAggie did A&M give him 2nd quarter rank?
If so, 2nd Q with a 1100 SAT will be tough, I’d say, to even get offered TEAM.

Srar indicates second quarter. (I think that’s where it says it) but he’s second quarter based on his class rank. 25.2 percent.

Sorry…25.8 percent.

2ndQ and 1100 SAT will be tough to get admitted. Hopefully he’s got other admissions already?

Unless I’m reading this wrong (Office of Academic and Business Performance Analytics (ABPA) - Admissions & Placement Test Scores), this seems to say average SAT for school of education and human development is 1176.

@DTxAggie interesing, never seen that site before. I’m sure the stats are correct, however, take it with a grain of salt. Meaning, it doesn’t indicate how many admitted were auto admit (and blew off SAT/ACT, knowing it didn’t matter), and I also didn’t see how many were admitted Auto, 1stQ, 2ndQ.

Students still have to be admitted to the university first, then assigned a major. There will be MANY thousands with much higher stats/acores, over a 2ndQ and 1100, that apply.

If you pay close attention to the data, the upper 25% are 1460 SAT and 33 ACT. Holistic applicants need to target those figures.

Auto has much less incentive to get high scores only need to fulfill the very low TSI requirement.

As a rant - the data confusion caused by the auto-admit process can be maddening. Because so many kids get accepted by virtue of being in the top 10% (regardless of the strength of their courses, the competitiveness of their high school, etc.,) it appears “easy” to gain acceptance. It looks like 60%+ of kids are accepted and the standard scores are in the 1100-1200 range. This sets expectations for many kids incorrectly and causes great frustration and disappointment/uncertainty.

I wish A&M would, at a minimum, move to a top 6% structure, like UT has done, and/or report the auto-admits separately, so that holistic applicants have a better appreciation for how difficult is in to get in. I realize that this data is available if you know where to look, but just a generic Google search provides misleading information. I also wish TAMU would stop with rolling admissions and give the kids a particular day when decisions will be announced.

My daughter was accepted last year - non-ranking school, assigned top 25%, 1320 SAT, all the bells and whistles (APs, sports, job, clubs, leadership, showed interest, blah, blah, blah) and the stress that our family went through waiting on a decision is stress that I would not wish on my worst enemy. There is so much conflicting data, so many variables - many of which are subjective - and so much uncertainty around timing and the rationale for decisions.

Finally - admitting to the university and not the major does not make sense if you require kids to choose a major when applying. The consequence of TAMU’s approach is that certain majors - Mays, for example, fills up with auto-admit kids (many of whom are not as strong of students as some of their holistic counterparts) and dilutes the strength of the major. TAMU should either 1) admit to the major (like UT does) or 2) admit kids to the university and give them a year or two (like OU does) to select a major. In my opinion, TAMU has taken the worst of both options - to no one’s advantage.

I’m sure there are some reasons for A&M’s methods, but I think many aspects could be easily improved with minor adjustments to bring A&M in step with other colleges and to alleviate some of the nonsense that drives applicants crazy. I also appreciate that A&M has so many students and so many applicants that they don’t “have” to change a thing. They get lots of qualified kids and grow every year, so they are doing something right - that allows kids to continue to want to attend. But to me, it is madness not to implement improvements. So, I’m manifesting my desires here… Universe, do your thing…

I 100% agree with this. :+1:t3: Have a niece that will be automatic admit to TAMU and just made TSI requirement and will be auto admit next Fall 2024. Currently, my son is top 25% with a ton of accolades and awards and made a 1380 on SAT and stressing out. We are taking an alternative route to TAMU, but it’s so confusing for students and a little defeating. I told my son it’s a numbers game. He got accepted into engineering for construction management at Tech, KState, and Oklahoma. Just waiting for TAMU, LSU, and Alabama. I just want him to know he is eligible for this level of higher Ed. His HS school is very competitive and nationally ranked. Good luck to everyone and thank you so much for all the input and recommendations. :pray:t3:

I appreciate these comments because we are currently living the stress you mentioned with my 1430 SAT Enge kiddo from a small, non ranking private school. What month did your daughter end up finding out?
