Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

No it did not change, she put in what she was taking and completed all required materials by the Oct 15th deadline for engineering. Her Q1 grades went automatically becasue that is what our guidance team does, they were sent Nov. 22.

While it may not seem “fair” to not accept sr grades, there has to be a hard rule on such matters in order to even the playing field. And it’s stated up front that this is the case. No surprises.

They will look at senior course rigor tho, so that’s in her favor.

If receive email encouraging students learn different pathways, make sure your student click through it.
If offered TEAB take it. It is basically same as full engineering admission going through the same ETAM.

Okay, D28 scored 1450 on Aug SAT. Immediately submitted to TAMU. Cautiously optimistic new score will boost chances for Forensic Science.

Anyone know if FIVS fills up? (Is there somewhere I should be looking for this info?)
2nd choice is Chem.

To anyone with a FIVS acceptance, would you mind sharing stats?

Realize Q2 doesn’t help, and it’s still early. Compared to son’s Sept acceptance to May’s last year, the waiting this round is well, brutal!

Did an email of that nature already go out?

Not yet. In the past few years, usually mid January, or a week or two before sending pathway offers.

If offered a pathway, is there a different deadline to accept?

Pathways like TEAB, Blinn Team, Gateway, Engineering McAllen, Galveston… likely first come first serve. Once filled the options disappear in AIS. Only “Waiting list” stays in the past.
So it is important to learn these pathways ahead of time and make decisions promptly.

Every year there can be a little change so follow the email about pathways.

Thanks FriscoDad! Great information!

Will the TEAM/Waitlist information come via email? If not, where will it be located on the Howdy portal? Is this something that could easily be missed or seen? Do you know if any went out in December? Our friend’s son has a small mountain to climb but his stats are better than his sister that received Blinn Team this current school year. Thanks!

Information comes via email. Last few years in January. You don’t have to wait to research those options you can check TAMU websites now.

The actual offers came via AIS between January and February last few years.

To add onto Friscodads advice… once you review the options have the serious discussion. That hard discussion with yourself (internal monologue) and your student about what you’ll do if the email comes asking you to select from 3 options. Do it now when there’s no pressure and just a little emotion.

I will say this and I know all the parents/students from past cycles will back me up… if you choose waitlist and team, you will not hear back til March. If you choose waitlist only, same thing. IF you choose team only… you will hear in a week or so from making that decision.

I don’t have the stats on how many actually get off the waitlist only or the waitlist/team option to receive full admit but I will say it’s almost 100% for those to get team if they choose team only.

More than you would think that chose the other options, end up with PSA offer.

So go discuss amongst your fam and see what option you can live with. If you have multiple offers from other universities, then try waitlist only. Nothing to lose at that point.

Some of the engineering option acronyms get us a little thrown off. But for non-engineering applicants (animal science/biology in our case), the 3 options could potentially be: TEAM (Blinn Team), Waitlist (waitlist for a full A&M admission if one comes available), or PSA (program for system admissions (go to another A&M system university with hopes to transfer to College Station at some point). Your feedback is helpful regarding potentially choosing TEAM and hearing a 100% confirmation of acceptance into that route versus choosing TEAM or Waitlist and remaining in limbo for the foreseeable future. Thanks for all your guidance through this thread.

@TamFam Gateway is a pathway also-perhaps considered the most coveted offer.

For PSA, make sure student major is offered (for example, Business is not). Not every PSA campus offers the same majors, either.

Like @ChristiR93 & @FriscoDad said…if students haven’t gotten admission at this point, be prepared for alternative pathways. Knowledge is key!

Former PSA student here. The PSA schools offered are not based on the major but on meeting admission qualifications at the PSA school. For instance, one of my friends was offered just one PSA school (West Texas A&M). I qualified for all eight PSA campuses and chose Corpus Christi. Here are questions/answers from TAMU’s PSA page:

Why can’t I see all eight system schools on AIS?

Each system school has provided minimum academic qualifications to guarantee admission. Some students may qualify for admission to all system schools while others may qualify for only one.

What if the system school doesn’t have my intended major?

The major choice at the system school does not matter. System schools who do not offer your intended major will place you in General Studies to allow you the opportunity to take the required coursework for PSA.

Just curious - are there not really full admits at this point?

@Tee2 good info! Yes, student still must qualify for acceptance to the PSA schools, and many may not get all PSA options like you did. Great point.

I mentioned Business specifically, because many assume they can do PSA for Business…but Mays is not an option thru PSA.

I didn’t say that, BUT once mid January rolls around, the number of pathways offered almost always seems be more than full admits.

Every admission cycle is different. If not auto admit, students should ALWAYS have other options/plans in place, and know the various pathways. Once the pathway options are offered, things move fast…

Do they ever offer TEAM, have a student accept it, and then change it to full admission?

That actually happened a couple of years ago (I may be wrong on year!). A few students reported on here that this happened to them.

Another option is the opportunity majors. Please research this as well. This will not be one of the 3 options given but may be a decision later on. Gateway is the other and it too will be a separate offer.
