My son was admitted yesterday to Mays! Trying to complete housing this morning but it doesn’t seem to be available to him yet. Anyone else having this issue?

Congrats on acceptance.. not surprised at all. As for housing, just keep trying it. Refresh etc throughout the day. Oh and breathe. It will open up soon, I’m sure.

Thank you! He’s my youngest and really wants Mays. It was competitive when I was going through this with my oldest 4 years ago for engineering and then has become so much more competitive now! So happy for him to have achieved this goal .

And thank you for your encouragement and advice 4 years ago and this year!

Fantastic! I mentioned in an earlier response my son had the same score and is thriving with a 4.0. A&M really seems to know how to find diamonds in the rough that are holistic.

My daughter got into Mays! I was really nervous since she’s holistic with an “average” test score. Here are her stats.

1st Quarter

4.0 (unweighted)

1320

average course rigor (for a Mays holisitc applicant; meaning she took AP/DC for all math, foreign language, and some science courses, but no advanced English courses)

excellent extracurriculars (club and school sports; various student clubs with leadership)

lots of volunteering (youth group, mission trips, and started a non-profit)

I am confused so please help. My son will be applying OOS for engineering. Is there still an early action admission deadline? It looks like this was eliminated.
It also sounds like there is an advantage to applying earlier, is this just for in-state or also for out-of-state? If there is an advantage what is it - eligible for scholarships or more likely to be admitted? Trying to prioritize which apps need to be finished this week.

What is the typical wait between applying and getting a decision, for OOS application (not engineering)? I’m not that familiar with rolling admission. So if you applied say October 1, when might you find out, roughly?

Hi there! You are correct that there is no early action this year for Engineering. HOWEVER, if he truly wants A&M, get that application in now. Most apply in August. Never pays to wait to do anything with TAMU.

The advantage has more to do with earlier acceptance, space still open on main campus vs. Galveston, Blinn TEAB or Mcallen and also gets you in the housing line up earlier if living on campus.

Best of luck and let us know how it all works out.

Hi There, depending on stats, it could be before Christmas or Jan/Feb. If high scoring and well rounded, then possibly early, but applying Oct 1st puts them behind all the holistic students that applied in August and September. While TAMU says it doesn’t matter when you apply, we have seen time and time again that it does. AND the earlier the acceptance, the better on campus housing chance you have.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hmm, that’s what i figured after checking here. Wish I had known earlier. Their admission information isn’t super clear that its rolling admission. Well we got something to do this weekend!!

WHOOP !!! Congratulations and thank you for posting !!! It is quite rare to see holistic applicant with SAT less than 1450 admitted before December.

Way to go !!!
