When have we have confirmed Mays being filled in years past? November?
Last year Mays was full by late October too. There were some auto admits who applied mid October who were given their second choice major.
I wonder how many they are accepting this year with the reduction in overall enrollment plans that were announced last year.
Changing major won’t hurt or help. But if you do change it, you’ll need another 2nd choice option. Ag business is also popular because they take classes in Mays that are just like Mays students vs someone with a minor in business.
If May’s is full, does that mean everyone that is accepted has already received the acceptance?
Will the TAMU AIS automatically remove Mays/Business as first choice for those not already admitted and switch it to second major? Several folks have stated at TAMU Admissions reddit, that Mays was removed and replaced with second major. One case is for someone admitted with their second major. For the others, their acceptance status has not been stated yet.
No. If major changes to 2nd choice.. typically means acceptance is coming.
Meant this for @MicroRNA1
Yes
Ok, thanks. Does anyone know how it works later on (after decision day) if all the spots in Mays don’t get taken by those who were offered a spot? Would they go back to applicants who had Mays as 1st choice to fill those spots? Wondering if I should encourage my son to send in some more application to other places?
Typically no, they do not. They offer more spots than they have knowing not everyone will accept. Same holds true for admission in general. There’s an algorithm for all of it.
I would always encourage other applications. Not “back up” per se, but just other great schools. Should never settle on education and there are soooo many great business schools out there (Ark, OU, Tech) etc. Blinn Team or even straight Blinn is great option if TAMU is the only goal (just no guarantee of Mays transfer).
Oh, also look at TAMU Galveston Maritime Business. I have had many students start there and change to Mays main campus. It’s just a change of major and by the time they are ready to move, they have every thing they need typically and hopefully a solid GPA. Worse case, you change major into something else that is interesting on main campus.
Literally so many means to an end!
Thanks!
Class of ‘96 grad here, CPA that was in group 4 of the PPA long ago. I spent 5 years in public accounting and the past 23 in Fortune 100 corporate. My advice is that if your kid clearly knows what path they want and it’s one in business, I STRONGLY recommend not to compromise with a backup major outside of the business school, especially if their interest is accounting. So if Mays doesn’t work out, my first recommendation would be another good b-school that is well recruited. Secondary to that would be something with a clear path to Mays by their junior year (significant recruiting happens that year), but those can be easier said than done.
I love A&M, my wife went there, our older kid graduated from there in December, and our younger one is a fish there now. But if your kid knows what they want to study, I strongly recommend that they attend a school where they are assured they can pursue that major. Don’t compromise on that passion. There are other good options.
Danny - were you tax or audit? My hubby is class of 96 and in the 4th PPA class. He is tax.
Great advice!! My husband also did PPA at UT and my 23 year old is finishing his PPA at A&M this year! Thank you, Danny1996. I also have a junior at A&M studying COSCI. We’ll see what happens!
Not that you need me, but I will be out of the country for 2 weeks and probably won’t have time to check in on here. If you send me a message, I promise to get to you as soon as I can. This month should yield at least one if not 2 more “rounds” of admissions.
Hang in there! Gig 'em
Rounds of admissions to include those in holistic review (specifically AGSM for my daughter) or is it pretty set that she shouldn’t expect to hear anything until Jan/Feb?
Thank you for always sharing your insight! You are so appreciated and hope you have a great trip. ![]()
Holistic for most majors. Timing will depend on app. Most hear after new years.
It seems some majors such as engineer and business received notification earlier than other majors, such as Biomedical Science? I thought biomedical science is rolling admission. It seems not?
I feel like BIMS every year is later than most. Someone please correct me if I’m not remembering right.
All majors are “rolling” but Mays fills up quickly so we hear about it sooner. Engineering is a whole other beast.
I was audit. I’m sure I knew your husband though. Everyone knew everyone
