Texas A&M Class of 2031 Official Thread

I have a class of 2029 but returning for my class of 2031. Different major of Engineering so feel like a newbie all over again, lol.

Any insight into what they look for Engineering is appreciated. Rank is top 1% and high GPA but understand that it’s holistic review.

what do y’all think of all the new/changes to the essays as far as their reasons for the changes? If I remember correctly for my class of 2029 there were extra essays but these were for scholarships so wonder if they still have those too. If so, that could be a lot of essays!

They will get Engineering but will go under general eng first year.

Havent heard why they changed essays uo this year (and removed some).

Maybe someone else on here has some intel.

New Top 10 Homeschool Scores are out! 27 ACT and 1290 SAT. The ACT went down by one point.

Thank you!!!

Do you think they have the year wrong but the score cutoff is correct? Because I know it updated but it still says 26/27? Do we think that’s accurate?

I called and they won’t confirm that those are the score goals. Did anyone take a screen shot of when A&M’s site said the scores would be updated in July? I’m starting to wonder if they won’t update in July.

Hi! First time mom of an applicant here-and probably second guessing everything admittedly. Son is applying to Mays. I was told by friends who had kiddos apply last year to use Apply Texas, however, I heard a mom say they attended Mays Days and was told Mays prefers Common App. Can anyone confirm? Thanks so much! Happy to have found this group!

I have a class of 2029 in Mays and she used Common App. My upcoming one (different major) plans to use Common App too.

Tamu in general prefers Common Ap but they will accept either and it will not affect your outcome either way. However, I suggest Common Ap.

Thank you both!

What does application to mays look like? I have a likely auto-admit that thinks he wants business. He’s planning to apply August 1. Is it a secondary holistic review like engineering?

No, not like engineering so as long as he applies early in August and is auto-admit he should get in.

When filling out the common app, under the “current or most recent year courses” which classes do you list? My son is a rising senior, planning to submit app as soon as possible after 8/1, but won’t actually start senior year until after the app is in.

We thought junior year course work because “most recent year courses”, but wanted to make sure.

Also, I’ve read that common app “resets” 8/1.. how hard is it to then try to submit your app that day and what’s the best way to try to save time/information? I’m thinking screenshots so we can easily remember what we had. Please advise! Thanks so much!

@Christi1993 Trying to determine if we have a chance of being accepted if applying to a few business adjacent options as we do not have the stats for Mays or Engineering at TAMU. Thinking about Economics (can add a biz minor) and possibly Agribusiness. (truthfully at this state we are not sure what he wants to do career wise) Only took two AP classes junior year. Not ranked anywhere near the top of his class, test optional. Unsure on unweighted GPA but it is at least a 3.8 which does not count 12 credit hours taking this summer. He will have ENG 1, ENG2, MACRO, GOVT all completed and taking Dual On-Ramps STATS his senior year. (Last year was Algebra II Adv) Based on posts from last years thread and seeing all the fantastic stats others had I would think are changes are slim to none but wanted to get some feedback.

so many typos before my cup of coffee…. smh

So TO and not ranked in top quarter provides little reassurance for full admit. Admissions just won’t have enough to go on. Their biggest goal is to set the student up for success.

Can you provide dual credit grades? That is something they will look at for readiness.

Any extenuating circumstances or ECs that set them apart?

So many routes to being a graduate of Tamu. Definitely apply, but have options for peace of mind! For those that are unsure of majors, I love the straight Blinn route to get their feet wet; Figure out the time management of it all; Explore different courses; Talk to peers to get perspectives etc.

B in ENG1 and A’s for the other classes listed. I am of course hoping for a TEAM option as I assumed direct admit was not on the table. Really no ECs, HS baseball and school take up so much time. (lots of travel baseball, etc) The only AP’s taken last year were AP English (2) and AP Seminar (3). We were pushing through the 12 credit hours this summer to help show rigor/focus to make up for TO.

Trying to fill out the self-reported transcript with my kiddo.

We finished everything and then I started thinking…

Our HS transcript lists the year/course, semester 1 grade, semester 2 grade, and then the yearly average (and credits given).

We listed it as a yearly class on the self-reported transcript with the average listed as the grade we input.

Is that correct or should we go back and break the classes into semesters with the semester grades listed instead of the average?

Thanks so much!

You should put it in by semester from my understanding. Exactly how it is noted on transcript. The yearly average doesn’t play into your GPA so needs to be the grades that are used to calculate your GPA.

Does that make sense?
