Friends son did just hear from engineering today she said. Already knew he was in for university. Top 5% of class. Just wanted to share for those keeping eye out. Hope that means starting to roll those out. Good luck!

There are few replies on College Bound - Texas on Facebook, that mentioned CS admission for non top 10%. On the same post, one of them said verbatim - “They calculate rank for holistic applications and top 10 percent per calculation hear in early October”.
That’s the first I’ve heard of auto admits (not NMSF) officially getting into engineering. Makes the wait even more nerve-wracking! Oh well nothing to do but keep on waiting! I did tuck away my son’s big A&M admissions envelope before he saw it…feels too soon for that kind of mail.
Interesting. I will have to deep dive this. Never heard of such. Of course those close to top 10% ranked by their HS get a close look vs bubble applicants but never heard of an internal ranking to push to top 10 except home school.
Holistic candidate - Received an email today early AM saying that the application is complete and its their turn to review. We finished app in August 2nd week. Also says generally most students receive decision in Jan through march.

This is their standard reply and a good reminder for applicants to take a deep breath and let the process happen. Very few holistics find out in the fall. Those that do are typically the high scoring or right on the bubble of auto admit or something unique pushed them over the line. Tamu sets this expectation but we see the outrage and frustration every cycle.

Borrowing tomorrow’s problems a little bit. My son has already heard back as an auto admit, but his best friend and hopeful roommate is a holistic applicant who is the valedictorian of his small school. His class has less than 10 kids so he’s just top quartile. I know that my son‘s deposit will pull him up in the roommate selection process, but how soon does he have to hear back for them to be able to room together?
No timeline on that. As long as your son has made his deposit on Phase 1, then he is all set. Once his friend is accepted and then does his phase 1, they will link up later (Phase 3). When your son gets his pick a room date and time, he will sign both of them up in that room.
Question though, what were your son’s friends test score?
Our Daughter is holistic candidate as well (Biology Major) and received the same email. Looking at FB College Bound - Texas It appears that some auto admits received the same email. I’m wondering if this holistic email went out for certain majors b/c they are full or have reached a certain threshold already? It appears that some auto admits for Mays received the email. Our daughter has had all check marks since August 17/18th and is ranked in top 12-13%. Waiting is until Jan-March is so stressful.
Hey there, From what I can determine (and from what it’s been like for the past 10 plus years), TAMU will NOT do an internal rank if your school provides an official ranking. They legally cannot do that. Now this doesn’t mean they don’t look at all the parameters and give you admissions, but there is no internal ranking to bump anyone to top 10% unless non ranking or non traditional school (home school).

Do you know from your experience if ACT and SAT are considered the same? My kid has a 36. While I am non-top 10%/high SATs getting admissions, I am not hearing similar for ACT scores.
If your student has a ACT score of 36, they will 100% be admitted at TAMU. When did they apply and what is their rank and what major?

Hello! My daughter is an auto admit (Top 10%) candidate who applied for Mechanical Engineering by late August. Got in supplementals by early September and university admit by mid September. Her account just got an email saying a decision has been made, but nothing changed in AIS. One thing that did change though was the college, which went from “UNEN” to “UN”. Does this mean she has been rejected from Engineering at College Station? Because Howdy Portal doesn’t show “UN” and still shows “UNEN”.
Keep refreshing AIS and howdy. Hopefully tomorrow itll read ENGE vs unen which was the place holder for under review for eng (as you know). Try not to read too much into it.

Oh thanks for the head’s up on the change! Looks like my son got that email as well. His Howdy and AIS have not changed. It has always been “UNEN” on Howdy and “UN” on AIS. I wonder if it has to do with what exactly they put in for their desired majors. Hopefully this is good news for these students! If you need me, I’ll be hitting “refresh”…

My daughter got the exact same message for Mech Eng/top 10% and no update in the portal.

If it makes any of you, now waiting for Engineering, feel like you’re not alone… My son took the bar in July and he gets his results tomorrow.. so I’m predicting tomorrow is going to be a fantastic day for us all!

There was a mix up with my daughter’s application file and she’s Top 10. We’ve been waiting for it to all be corrected for the past 4 weeks and her AIS updated today as well! She’s got 7 tabs now! Tomorrow is going to be a big day!! 
PS - 3/3 into A&M. This mama’s heart is so happy and thankful! (And glad I don’t have any more to get in!)

She is Top 16%, Electrical & Computer Engineering. STARS completed on 09/07.
