Texas A&M Galveston vs Engineering academy at Blinn Brenham

Got admitted to TAMU Galveston. But also applied to Blinn Brenham. Waiting still on engineering academy decision.

  1. Should I decline my TAMU Galveston offer in order to get academy decision?

  2. Which of these options are better?
TAMUG is considered full admission but it is far from College Station.

Will the Blinn Brenham engineering academy students get to compete at the same level as compared to TAMU Galveston?

Can the engineering academy students take advantage of learning support resources at TAMU?

Any insights will help to make our decision. Thanks for all your help.

@Gayatrig why would you also apply to Blinn-Brenham, if you’ve been accepted to Galveston?

They are completely separate applications and institutions.
Galveston is full acceptance to A&M-sports pass, same Aggie ring.

@FriscoDad is the A&M Engineering guru, he can weigh in.

Are you being offered TAMUG while applying to TAMU, or you applied directly to TAMUG and got accepted, if so what major?

Engineering Academies at Blinn Brenham is in general a 2 year program. It is not the same as TEAB that offered to TAMU engineering applicants as TEAB is a one year ETAM program.

Engineering Academies still have similar engineering first choice option like ETAM, but students are required to stay on Blinn to finish Calculus I/II and III. Which at times, will need minimum 1.5 years to finish. (48 hours from Blinn Brenham and 9 hours from TAMU) LLC dorms are limited to Mill Creek Hall or Prairie Lea Hall.

Applied to academy separately before the decisions came in.
we are thinking if ETAM process is same as TAMUG and academy process does not have any specific cons, then weighing in to see if joining in engineering academy to be closer to my place (Austin)compared to TAMUG

We applied to College Station but got admitted to Galveston for General Engineering.

Some specific engineering majors may be very difficult to get into in ETAM, while others admit everyone.

@Gayatrig he’ll have a much ‘truer’ freshman experience at TAMUG vs at Blinn. Not much going on in Brenham, campus is tiny and I’d suspect most students leave on the weekends.

TAMUG has their own yell leaders, FLOs, lots to do in Galveston, campus right on the water, students carpool to the football games (getting early pull time than those College Station students) and everyone is an Aggie. It’s a true 4 year college campus.
