Texas State University in San Marcos, does it lean left or right?

Just curious what the major political leaning of the students & faculty is at this university.

Don’t have a clue but given its size, it’s too big to matter in general. Unless you end up in some tiny department, I can’t see it being an issue.

I am curious simply because I don’t hear much at all about Texas State in this forum. You’d figure with their size there would be more talk about TSU.

Here is my opinion as why it is not talked about much here. It is a lower stat school than UT or A&M. CC’s normal audience is higher stat students. Just look at all the talk about HYPSM and people retaking 34 ACTs and 2250 SATs because those aren’t good enough.

So not that many TSU applicants frequent this website.

Thanks for the input kldat1. I had noticed that most students/parents that posed here do seem to have a fixation on the 8 Ivy’s & a few other schools. Truth is there are some other very respectable to decent schools that go largely unnoticed. I noticed for example there is no forum here for Trinity University in San Antonion even though N & WR ranks it #1 in it’s regional colleges/universities. Go figure. I figure if I can’t pay for UT or TAMU, Texas State is inexpensive & taking Honors classes would compensate for any “lack.”

But there is a forum for Trinity …

[Trinity University - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/trinity-university/?pp=20&daysprune=365)

… though somewhat sparsely attended.

Sorry, that’s what I meant, it’s there but not a single post. Pretty sad considering its a very reputable LAC (well sort of LAC).

The students lean toward the “Party Party”. Most are enjoying college and are not obsessed with politics. As with most colleges, the econ and business faculty are Republicans, the sociology, anthropology, and english faculty are Democrats and the other departments are a mix.

This year, people will be mildly interested in glibal warming and gay rights because those are front page issues. Maybe 10% of students have a real interest.

But, politics is not an obsession in San Marcos for most folks.

Thanks for sharing Alan. We dropped by to see the campus for Texas State, along with Texas A & M, and Texas Tech University within the last month. Texas State by far has the best looking campus. Not that it has anything to do with academics, but boy is that a beautiful place.
