Texas vs Pitt

I’m struggling to decide which school to attend right now.
Both are great school with very similar academics though Texas has more recognized reputation.
I planned to major in Athletic Training and eventually do health or sport related jobs such as physical therapist.
I know Pitt’s health related majors are great, so I assume Pitt has nice Athletic Training program.I can save about $12000 at Pitt by the time I graudate but money isn’t a big issue for me, but payng less is always better than paying more
Weather isn’t an issue also, since I’ve never lived in
a place with nice weather so I don’t even know how good it feels to be living in a place with nice weather.
Austin and Pittsburgh offer ample opportunities to play, eat, and chill but Austin seems to be a better place to live.
Texas has more than 30000 undergraduate students, Pitt has about 17000.
So… What do you think?
It seems like I leaned toward to Pitt, but I really love both school.
Help me out! :)

I know nothing about Texas. However, something to look at if you are interested in athletic training might be professional teams. Pittsburgh has professional football, baseball, and hockey, plus the great college teams. You might ask how good the connections are at each school for internships and part-time jobs.

Visit, visit, visit. Then go with your instincts. These 2 cities are very different from each other. Though I’m not a big fan of Texas, Austin is a very cool place. More books are sold there per capita than any other American city. The school, however, is huge. Maybe too big. Pitt seems to have a manageable size student population. And the city is really fun also. Plus, as you said, paying less is better than paying more. All in all, a nice choice for you to grapple with. You can’t go wrong.

Since the main purpose of going to college is to get a good degree and go on to get a good job, I’d say go to the school that can offer you the most for your field of study. Pitt has the #2 physical therapy program in the country, and as a pitt student, you can get guaranteed admission into their graduate program after 2 years in the undergraduate school.

Also, (don’t quote me) but, Pitt was named the best city to live in because of the variety of things to do at such a low cost.

You should visit the schools to see which one is best for you, but I would go with Pitt, hands down

Actually, Pitt has more of a recognized reputation in anything med/health sciences. I know this is a late post, but [Pitt is actually ranked 5th]( http://www.hiceducation.org/edu_proceedings/Toby%20L.%20Dore.pdf</a> ) in the nation in this study on athletic training programs.

My daughter is a freshman at Pitt, was accepted at University of Texas-Austin, Northwestern and Georgia Tech and after visiting the Pitt campus was sold on the school. The enthusiasm and pride of the students is infectious. The academics (Engineering) are challenging. She loves the city, campus and her classes. You work hard and can play too. The weather is different if you’re from Texas, but just dress appropriately.

I believe painholic chose Pitt and should be there now!

Painholic, have you already gotten into both schools? I too am looking at both schools. I’m an out of state student but with Texas residency (dad lives in Texas). I got into Pittsburgh and I’m trying to send my app out for UT Austin asap. I want to major in pre-med and I don’t know which college will suit me better (if I even have the option of choosing).

^^^ With your 1500 combined M and CR scores, it’s possible Pitt will give you a full-tuition scholarship and invite you to compete for the Chancellor’s, too, which would pay for your room and board. I don’t know what Texas would give you; you’ll have to wait and see. I don’t think you could go wrong with either school.

Forget any money from UT-Austin. I agree with LurkNess on an opportunity for full tuition at Pitt. My son goes there(freshman engineering) and is very very happy. We are Texas residents too.

@mynameisslim

Yes I’ve gotten into both schools and I chose Pitt.
I would never know if I had made a better choice since I am never going to attend Texas but I am pretty happy here at Pitt. Although I am not happy with my grades here lol
If you are going to do Pre-Med, you should come Pitt. Any science major related majors are top notch at here.
But you might face a big competition at Pitt since there are A LOT of Pre-Med students
