WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Barack Obama has won the overall delegate race in Texas thanks to a strong showing in Democratic county conventions this past weekend.

Obama picked up seven of nine outstanding delegates, giving him a total of 99 Texas delegates to the party’s national convention this summer. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won the other two, giving her a total of 94 Texas delegates, according to an analysis of returns by The Associated Press.

Texas Democrats held both a presidential primary and caucus. Clinton narrowly won the popular vote in the state’s primary March 4, earning her 65 national convention delegates to Obama’s 61.

Right after the Clinton’s 3rd place finish in Iowa, Howard Wolfson and Mark Penn of the Clinton campaign stated that this campaign is about delegates. Right before Feb. 5, the Clinton Campaign repeated that to the press.

Now when they see that’s not in their favor, they are changing the rules of the games.

Texas has a stupid system. Caucuses are for whacked true believers which BO has in droves. Hillary attracts normal people with better things to do.

Bill Clinton ran for office in 92 under the Texas caucus system. The DNC which had many Clinton backers, (superdelegates with DNC affiliation back HRC 2:!) designed the nomination system with all its rules.

Caucuses measure support among the people who will actually phone bank, donate money, and go door-to-door. They are the troops in an election.

Obama banking on caucuses isn’t a good idea. People who caucus are, like subsidy said, dedicated supporters. A popular vote demonstrates the view of the people far more than caucus results do.

The “normal people” who voted for Hillary in Texas included a very special category: voters who would rather see a colony of termites attacking their house than Hillary and Bill in the White House. Without the “true Clinton haters” who contributed 7% of her votes, she would have been beaten soundly in Texas.

If you know any Republican in Texas, ask them if they voted for Hillary. The response will floor you … they could not have been happier to screw the democrats and ensure the continuation of the vicious battle led by HRH Clinton.

You make a great point, but not about HRC. This is why you shouldn’t rely on your neighbors word. Republicans voted for Obama by a slim (I wanna say 4%) margin.

“Obama banking on caucuses isn’t a good idea. People who caucus are, like subsidy said, dedicated supporters. A popular vote demonstrates the view of the people far more than caucus results do.”

I agree. Which is why I think it is terrific that the percentage he is ahead in the national popular vote and in the number of pledged delegates is virtually the same.

Virtually all polling data says Obama is more electable against McCain. 59 percent of Democrats think so too. It’s just a matter of weeks before HRC is taken down. I wonder if Gingrich ever thought that the people to take down the Clintons would be liberal Democrats, not conservative Republicans.

Tell me about that. I went last Saturday, and still don’t have energy to write about that. I left home at 8:00 in the morning and came back at 8:30 in the evening - we only did 10 mins. of caucusing. Rest of the time we were in one line or other and just waiting for other people to finish one line or the other.

I would have more respect for the HRC campaign if they didn’t keep trying to change the rules AFTER the results come in

Pre Feb-5 “Its all about the delegates, which we’re winning fo sho!”
Post Feb-5 “The delegates don’t really matter, i’m more electable regardless of what they say!”

Pre FL, Mich “I think its pretty clear that FL and Mich aren’t going to count for anything!”
After she wins “How dare you ‘disenfranchise’ voters!!”

Pre Bosnia “I’m going to be ready on day one to answer that 3am phone call”
Post Bosnia “When I’m sleep deprived i tend to ‘misspeak’ and accidentally make up incidences when me and my only child were under sniper fire, but whatevs.”

…and I’m sure this doesn’t even come close to covering it.

"Since the gas lines of the 70s, Democrats and Republicans have talked about energy independence, but nothings changed except now Exxons making $40 billion a year, and were paying $3.50 for gas.
Im Barack Obama. I dont take money from oil companies or Washington lobbyists, and I wont let them block change anymore.

Factcheck.org today takes a look at Obama’s claim to not take money from oil companies and concludes that the statement “misleading” since according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics Obama has taken more than $213,000 from individuals (and their spouses) who work for companies in the oil and gas industry – not to mention that two of Obama’s top fundraisers are top executives at oil companies"

It is literally true that Obama doesn’t take money from oil companies. No federal candidate does – corporations have been banned from direct contributions since 1907.

The Obama campaign points out that the senator doesn’t take money from PACs or from lobbyists. Factcheck.org calls that a "distinction without very much of a practical difference.

Tyler, don’t forget the inevitable abandonment of “years of experience” as a criterion for leadership if HRC begins running against McCain instead of Obama.

I seem to recall that Bill said if Hillary didn’t win Ohio and Texas it was time for her to drop out. But in true Clinton fashion I guess it now comes down to what does “win” mean.

Absent whatever new shennanigan they’re up to hoping to still prevail for this nomination, I am quite convinced that the Clintons ultimately know they are done for this year.

They want to hurt Obama as much as possible and hope McCain beats him so she can then run in 2012, as I think even she realizes she’s got no shot waiting for 2016; but Chelsea should be ready about then and they’ll prop her up 'cause these folks ain’t never giving up their dream of being King and Queen of America.
