I worry that I might have done something dumb.

When submitting Harvard’s optional supplemental essay, I realized after I submitted it that I forgot to make sure it was all black. When I was writing it, so I could keep track of new things I added or changed, I put the new things in red. I’m colorblind and can’t quite tell the difference unless it’s on paper. Thus, I looked it over and thought it was all right, and submitted it. I worry that Harvard will think that the red parts are red for effect, or worse, red because they were copied/plagiarized/not my work. This is not the case. The essay is ALL MINE, but I’m scared the red will look amateurish or suspicious. Should I call or email them on it and say “Look, this was just a colorblind thing, sorry,” or should I hope it goes unnoticed. Will this hurt my chances? Please let me know, because it’s really starting to worry me.

You can contact them and explain if you’re concerned. I doubt it will have much of an effect. The worst they can do is question your awkward choice of colours…

I don’t know… I don’t want to call attention to it or make myself seem like an idiot. Yet if I ignore it, they will be free to assume the worst.

I would really hate to be kept out of my dream school in part because of some text color issue.

This would be really funny if it was in a movie with Kal Penn in it or something. Alas, this is not. Still, pretty funny, in a self-destructive way.

Hey Infos33k3r, I think that given you are colorblind and you are distraught (i would be as well) over the red text in your essay, I do not see any harm in letting the Harvard people know. Just send a quick email. All will be fine, don’t worry, and best of luck to you!
