Textbooks worth it?

Before I go on about textbooks, I have a little dilemma in deciding my self-studies. In my high school, there are only about 6 offered AP classes, and I am only taking one AP class this year which is very minimal work overall. I hope to take as many self-study AP exams as I can that are not available at my school.

I certainly have lots of time to study when I need to. I have been trying to decide between AP Physics B & AP Psychology or AP Psychology and AP Environmental Sciences. The problem is that I have heard AP Physics B is rough if you have no background in AP Calculus yet, and/or a background in at least an accelerated Physics class. Neither of which I have really experienced. However, I do have a great background in Science, and Scientific concepts come to me really easily, so I’m at a crossroads in this decision.

Other than that, however, is I am wondering wether to get a Textbook and THEN a Exam Review or just get a Review book. I lurk a lot on these forums and have found out that these consolidated readings are much more appropriate for AP Exams than just reading through a “leisure read”–the textbook. I understand if maybe I might need a textbook, Giancoli’s Physics for Physics B, and a consolidated reading for Psychology, but I heard that the consolidated readings don’t go over everything you may need for the exam (oddly enough). Who do I trust? What are your recommendations?
