should we start ordering them now? i’m looking online for the Applied calculus 6th edition by Tan with the ISBN 0495293245 but i can’t seem to find it. i found 7th edition but not 6th. =(

I bought my books for Calculus 2 and Physics Honors at the bookstore during Preview.

Teachers that use the earlier edition are usually saving you a lot of money. Esp since there is usually no difference between the two editions except the cover.

I know they probably covered this at preview, but what happens if you order a book and then switch into a different class (I might be going into a higher Spanish)?

If you buy the new package in plastic wrapping, then dont open it. Once open there is no refunds. If not open, you can just return it. Check the return policy with each bookstore. They are different for each, with timing. I know the reitz one is very short.

I went to preview already…and i’m still unsure, can anyone explain to me why you would need to get a book deferment? I can understand the housing, but why for books?

With Bright Futures, there is a 300-500 book allowance. Most people just let their financial aid take care of their textbook payment instead of using their credit card or something. You don’t have to defer your textbook payment, UF FA will send you a check for whatever is left over. People defer it as a matter of convenience.

Gator, I bought 2/4 I’m going to need. Will the 100% BF pick it up if I have a receipt for the items from the UF Bookstore (even though my parents spent over that amount I believe)? I’d assume they’d just cover 300-350 of whatever you paid.

They cover $300* of what you buy. If you go over that amount, you pay the difference. If you already bought some of your books (with a credit card, but didn’t defer them through FA), then you will get a check for that $300. You still have two textbooks to buy, so if you decide to defer those and that total is still below $300, you will get a check for the remaining amount you haven’t used. Does that answer your question?

*Maybe more than $300, depends on your FA.

ah…the ISBN number is different. even though they are both 6th editions. =(

Do we have to have the textbooks by the first day of class? I’m worried about not having the money to pay for them without my financial aid money…

No you don’t have to have them for the entire first week really. That’s why UF has deferment – so that you can defer payment of your textbooks since you don’t have your FA in yet.

If you’re short on money, I suggest using half.com or amazon.com and buy used books. Just make sure you are ordering the correct editions.
