"Thank you" after an interview. Email or handwritten note?

I’m the mama, so of course I say “handwritten note.” DS, who just returned from an interview for an internship, is ready to fire off a few quick emails to the people he talked with.

He’s afraid the snail mail wouldn’t get there by the time the group meets to make a decision, and that could be so. I do think a real note stands out more and is classier.

What would you advise? I suppose it would be too sucky-uppy to do both. Thank you.

Either is totally fine. Email is perfectly acceptable these days. (and I’m an old fashioned mom). But don’t do both.

I used to say handwritten note, but now I say email. Hardly anything comes by regular mail anymore that people often neglect their hard copy in box for days. It seems less contrived to send an email and is more consistent with regular business communications. So, I’ve changed my view to email.

I prefer email. If I’m not in the office it will sit on my desk for quite awhile. I get my emails on my phone.

Email wins for promptness. If he’s hired, he can send a written thank you.

I think email is the standard these days. At my work, we stopped having physical mailboxes - it was so rare to get actual mail-mail.

All my “millennial” kids have sent emails. I’m old fashioned but would never have suggested snail mail. Not only is it slower, but it has to go through the company mail room. That may take additional time and may sit in an in box or mailbox for awile.

Email within 24 hours - thanking each of them and personalizing it for each interviewer - make them short and end with if you need anything further please contact me and his contact information (If it was not explicitly said have him include when will I expect to hear back)

My vote is email so the interviewers receive it while your S is fresh in their minds. With a written note you have to factor in time for mail delivery. Then it could sit on their desks unopened or in some company mail room (do these still even exist?) for God knows how long.

Wow, thanks. Email it is. He’ll be relieved.

Handwritten is a little wierd and slow these days.

@intparent , weird and slow describe me pretty well. Figures.

email (or snapchat of you drunk at a party that night saying how hot you thought the interviewer was)
