We recently needed to call 911 for someone in our office and the police and paramedics were fantastic. My boss wants me to send food or something to the station to thank them. I am waiting for a call back from a pastry shop as I was thinking about having breakfast rolls and fruit delivered. I thought delivery might be better than a random person walking in with food - who knows if they would even take it. Does anyone have experience with this, or know someone on the police force? Do they accept things like this?
I like the idea of thanking them, just not sure what is appropriate.
Thank you.
If your police department has some kind of community initiative such as PAL or another, a donation in their honor is always appropriate.
I would call the non emergency number at the station and ask. When the emergency room at my Dad’s smallish town local hospital was exceptionally compassionate , I went by the next day and took orders for Starbucks the next day and returned with what each person wanted.
Maybe you could call the police department (the non-911 number) and ask if they can accept gifts. If yes, I think delivery by the business itself probably would be better. I agree that thanking them in some way is a very nice thing to do.
Another way to thank them is via public recognition. And that might be even more appreciated since police are typically paid well and while pastries may cost you quite a bit, and are certainly nice to have, they are probably not that unusual at a police station. What about a letter to the paper or to the mayor singing their praises?
A letter to the Chief and letter to the editor is very nice. If you send food, I would suggest a tray for each shift. Most PD’s and EMT services rotate shifts. I was an ER nurse and we loved it when people sent food in at shift change for all shifts and a nice letter to the CEO.
