Thanksgiving 2025

I just presented her 2023 memoir book at our book club. People loved it. (Our book club has each person present a book.)

I use a potato peeler so I don’t slice my finger off.

I never peel potatoes. Love the skin. Even for mashed potatoes (I boil the potatoes if I’m mashing them).

I do peel sweet potatoes. Peeler for that.

We don’t usually have that many people, and my aunt does place cards. She sets a lovely table, including plates. Mostly we have had everything at the table, but if we did buffet we’d pick up our plates from the table.

Team Knife here! I can peel potatoes without much waste with just a knife. I bake sweet potatoes in their skins. IMO, baked sweet potatoes taste better than same potatoes prepared in any other way.

I put a runner in the middle of the table with my Mr. Turkey as a centerpiece. Set the dishes and glasses and, depending on how many people and how much table space we have, either serve everything family-style or let the guests help themselves from the buffet-style spread.

I scrub and don’t peel potatoes. If I decide to peel, I’m team peeler too.

We are spatchcocking - first time. We dry brine and cook the turkey on the grill.

Peeling potatoes was always my job on Thanksgiving as a kid, and I was given a peeler to use rather than a knife. I always hated that job! I’m right handed but my parents are both lefties which meant the blade was dull for me b/c I used it in the opposite direction they did. Somehow I managed!

Team peeler here. The place cards remind me that when my daughter was little she colored cute little place cards for everybody on Thanksgiving at my in-laws.

I’m a leftie too. I’m pretty much the only one in our family that uses the peeler I so can’t blame others for its dullness. Hey the skins are supposed to have nutrients& roughage—that’s my position & I stick with it!

I use placecards because of my neice and nephew who always plop themselves down in the middle of the table if left to their own devices. As Larry David says “ they can’t middle” but unlike him I’m not willing to haul them out of their seats if they haven’t been assigned one. Reddit - The heart of the internet

All food but the turkey is made, the menus and name cards printed, the table set, and the sourdough waffle batter is fermenting overnight for blueberry waffles in the morning. DIL made rosemary popovers to go with the clam chowder we all enjoyed as we cooked all afternoon. Nothing to do tomorrow but watch the men oversee the grilling of the fresh turkey, the sous viding of the wild turkey, and the slicing of the venison ham with the Lions game in the background.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our CC families. May all your food taste wonderful and all your time together be joyful.

I don’t. I get those tiny new potatoes, cut them into quarters, boil, and mash with the butter, cream cheese and milk. We like chunky potatoes also…so they get mashed not puréed.

We’re about to head up to the Lucerne Inn. It’s a bright, sunny day. I called and our room will be ready at 1, so DH can start watching the Packers’ game and we can get dressed up for dinner at 3.

String beans draining for mushroom soup/crispy onions casserole. Soon I will do the stuffing (from a box–rosemary-thyme-brioche), then put the Brussels sprouts in the fancy toaster oven, out of the freezer, oiled and later basted with balsamic vinegar and back in the oven. I use the oven under stovetop to store pans and covers, but I’ll empty it and leave with everything warm–less work for host.

My host and her visiting brother are halfway across Brooklyn. I will arrive via subway and bus. Happy Thanksgiving all, and hope it’s a festive day for all. political/lifestyle/etc. differences notwithstanding.
