Before she passed, my mom was “the help” - she even called herself that! If I used a spoon, she washed and dried it even if I was just going to use it again. For me the hardest part is the timing. I am going to cook the turkey on Wednesday as that is definitely the most stressful item. Dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, roast rainbow carrots with a yogurt harissa sauce. A cranberry/orange/cardamom relish and the Ocean Spray jellied cranberry. I ordered a salted caramel apple pie from Dominique Ansel and that will be dessert. D will come later in the weekend so am making a cranberry galette for that meal.
Gosh, a cranberry galette sounds amazing! And the red will be beautiful!
I need to double check the recipe but it’s super easy. I think it’s actually cranberries and raspberries for the filling but it’s delicious. I do not care for pumpkin pie. At all.
Since there are only going to be two of us, I think I’m going to make stuffed baked apples for dinner. Not sure what I’ll stuff them with…probably a mixture of a locally made granola. Serve with vanilla bean ice cream. Makes a lot more sense than a whole pie.
Excellent! I’m going to steal your idea!
Not making a pie for 2 people for sure.
Leftover pie? Cut it in serving pieces and drop them in a Tupperware and put in the freezer. Pull out one piece at a time when you want it. I do the same with cakes or other desserts.
Would pumpkin pie freeze well, though? I love it and am happy to make it.
Yes pumpkin pie freezes great! As does pumpkin cheesecake, pecan pie and most other baked desserts. I always bake ALL the desserts, no matter how few we have for dinner, freeze all the leftovers and have a treat when needed for months afterward.
I’m pretty sure I’ve done pumpkin before. Definitely fruit pies and pecan.
Also “just between you and me”… pie for breakfast is definitely a thing! Especially pumpkin! With a cup of hot
….
Oh, I have had a pumpkin pie and coffee breakfast before!
I make a cranberry curd tart, and it is the prettiest thing ever. Not as popular as pumpkin, but quite something to see
Would you share the recipe?? That sounds amazing!
My original is from the NYT, but since I no longer subscribe I can’t link to that.
Here’s a comparable – you can use any crust at all. My DiL likes to slice mango super thin and use that to decorate the cooled top
Thank you!!!
Thanks to Bunsen Burner, I bought a small turkey at Costco yesterday. It was $10. Neither of us eat dark meat, but those legs could go into a soup.
My local market sells pies and cakes by the slice.
Is this the NYT version?
Yes! I figured someone here would have the gift link, thank you!
Thank you! Ya’ll make a great team!
I feel a smidge guilty that I made four pies and saved two of them for just DH and me
… and one is eaten already.
