We are not middle of the afternoon T’Giving eaters. We will eat at six just as we do on most days. Everything is ready except for the Bird. This is my first holiday in years in a house with just one oven so I did a lot of stuff up front. Made the pie today…fresh blueberry. I’ll re-heat the sweet potatoes, toss up a salad, make the rolls (don’t forget the rolls!) and cross my fingers it will all come out okay.

We (DH, DD, and best friend) spent the evening at Mellow Mushroom and won trivia (and a $50 gift card) for the third week straight. Woo hoo! It’s our year to host my family for Thanksgiving, so I’m cooking for 26 people on Saturday. Now if I can just figure out where to seat them all. .

I just finished making my Julia Child creamed onions for tomorrow. Nice to have that out of the way – doing two roux based sauces (the bechamel for the onions and the turkey gravy) at the same time is always a pain.

Chiming in late because we are done. Had our Thanksgiving yesterday (Thanksgiving Eve dinner) because S3 is a waiter and will report to work at 9:30 AM and is not off until 9 PM. So I get to kick back now and watch the Thanksgiving Day parade, maybe cruise some online pre-black Friday, enjoy having DD home. Hope everyone’s Thanksgiving is happy and peaceful.

Restaurants are open today, singersmom? BUmmer that your s, and swimcatsmomm’s d have to work.
Enjoy the day!! Off to cook!

House is messy, nothing is baked, no turkey in the fridge…we are going OUT TO EAT! Two years ago, when my mom was going through breast cancer treatments, we decided it would be easier for all to just go out. A “better” restaurant nearby offers a HUGE TG buffet. We went, loved it, and have gone each year since. Reservations are at 2:30.

And, I am getting ready to go teach a fitness class at the Y at 10:15. That should make room for an extra…umm…bite of stuffing?

I’m eating out too, and quite happy with decision! Actually, I made a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce for s/o for Tuesday night, as he was leaving town next day. Now I have all the bones for myself.

we will surely give a good to to the server.

Just made the stuffing. Going to go to the gym shortly. Plans are to sit down at 6:00 PM.

Yep, they are open. It is the 3rd busiest day, after Mother’s Day and Easter. Only 2 people got off. Their reservations are full, stopped taking them Tuesday, and walk in will wait a long time.

Still up to my elbows in stuffing- have to make 2 as som people like swweet with fruit (me) and others only with vegetables . sigh

I made two, too, so mom could have some gluten-free. (I vote no fruit in the stuffing, in fact, except for the apple pie and cranberries, I think we’re fruitless–<insert obvious=“” pun=“”>.)</insert>

My DS#2 is allergice to nuts, so we leave them out of the stuffing. I guess that makes him… oh never mind :)

I made 2 as well. I have never found a stuffing I like as much as my Mum’s (it is a packet mix I can’t get over hear, mixed with English sausage meat which is totally different from American sausage meat). I cooked a sourdough and sausage one from cooking light yesterday which I really liked and so did my daughter’s fiancee, think that will be my staple for now. I used a cornbread mix for the other, but my husband didn’t like it. Daughter and fiancee also made some deep fried stuffing covered sausage balls which were very yummy.

The ice rink my daughter was supposed to work at today is not opening due to mechanical problems, so we didn’t need to do thanksgiving a day early after all. But that is fine as I get to have a lazy day and eat leftovers today. I had Pumpkin cheesecake for breakfast :D

Do tell. Recipe, please.

I’ll have to ask them for the recipe. I know they cooked Italian sausage, rolled it into balls, rolled it in some sort of packaged cornbread stuffing, coated them in whole wheat flour, then deep fried them. They were very tasty. There was also supposed to be a sausage gravy but my husband kind of ruined that trying to “help” them despite their protests (when he should have been carving the turkey)and burning the pan black and ruining the sausage drippings they had left in the pan for their gravy.

Only four of us, but tomorrow night we’re having about 25 friends over for a party (not Thanksgiving meal). Made the spinach artichoke casserole and apple pie last night. Today have to do the stuffing, homemade French bread and potatoes. Oh, yea, fruit salad. H pretty much takes care of the turkey. He brined it last night and will put it on the Big Green Egg in about an hour… so we eat… whenever we eat, usually around 4 or 5. We always go see a movie Thanksgiving night, too.

But, speaking of zanies (and please don’t judge me or my family for this), Thanksgiving Eve is always one of my favorite entertainment nights. I dread it every year, but then am so glad I do this - I’ve pretty much become the DD for my young adult children. Thanksgiving Eve is when all the kids who are home from college (who are 21 or older) and the college grads who have moved away hit up our local bar. We joined them earlier in the evening and had a bite to eat, then left. I finally got a text around 2AM that they were ready to leave (the bar is only about a mile away). So I pull a coat over my PJs, drive up there and pull into the parking lot where D1 and D2 are waiting. They get in the car and say their friends (who live within a block of us) have decided to walk and left about two minutes ago. So we pull back out of the parking lot and see them (four of them) walking down the sidewalk, about a block from the bar. I pull over and my girls roll down their windows and ask if they want a ride. They are so excited to see us as it’s cold and misty out. So the four of them crawl into my middle seat (there is a third row, but the seats weren’t up) where D2 is already sitting. So there’s five of them piled on top of each other laughing. As I pull away from the curb (this is sort of a major street, but very little traffic at this time at night), within 25 yards, we see a cop parked in a parking lot, waiting to pull people over who have just pulled out of the bar parking lot who look like they’re drunk. I’m freaking out because I’m thinking he’s going to pull me over and ask about these six drunk kids in my car (I have not had a drink in six hours, but I was woken up to pick them up and am very tired, so I could have been mistaken as not all quite there). But we pass him and we all laugh and the kids realize they could have been picked up for public intoxication had they gotten much further down the sidewalk and actually walked in front of the police car.

So I drove real slow home to prolong the mile ride and listen to them laugh and thank me over and over and over again for picking them up. And now we’re sitting around laughing about the whole thing.

H just put the turkey breast on the grill, the thighs are in the crockpot, and the stuffing is made and ready (THANK YOU Wegmans for your multi-grain baguettes!).

My poor cat has a nasty ulcer on his tongue (leukemia test was negative thank goodness), and he has been a drooling cretin all week, now his drooling had doubled smelling all the good food and I have to watch him constantly. I don’t want to put him in his house as a last resort, he’ll think he’s off to the vet again…

D1 will be off to her BF’s family after dinner (no BF due to football game Saturday), D2 to her teammate’s, I’ll be looking forward to that bottle of Penfolds around 6…

PS - share the Julia Child creamed onion recipe please, it is just Birds Eye for me today…

teriwtt, that’s the sort of thing I miss now that both sons are out of the house. What a feel-good moment.
